I had no idea that there was an different ending for this movie! And as there are many FReepers who are fans of this movie I though you would enjoy it as much as I did!
Didn’t like this ending as much. Too long, drawn out, and he has to do the whole speech about believing lies before you are left with the idea the stories were true.
The real ending was short and too the point, and still left you with some possibility that all the old men had made up stories.
I think both endings removed all doubts that the old menss story were true. WHy else would the old Shiek fo the old Shiek’s grandson show up?
Love the film. I live 3 miles from where it was filmed.
Really? A small scene in the beginning, he’s sketching something and his mother tells him to stop, that it wouldn’t amount to anything...15 seconds. But, like I said, it would have made more sense if his great-uncles’ stories had inspired him to write adventure novels based on their adventures, but alas.... otherwise, I love 80% of this film.
That one was OK, but I kinda like the original ending better.
I saw this movie in 2005. I did not know there was an alternate ending.
Thanks. I like both endings.
That movie is the best. Thanks for reminding me about it. : )
My Dad was called away at 76 years and 6 months. That has been almost 10 years ago this month. To do all he said he did he could not have been a day short of 100. We were told what we passionately believed and listened to in total fascination as children and then when we became adults began to doubt as tall tales.
Over the years, we have learned it was all true. Dad never told a lie and we should have known better than to doubt him.
Hitchhiked across America when he was 13, truck driver, forest fire fighter, dozer operator, surveyor, logger, hiked across Panama, gold mining in the Klondike on a lark, sailor, fighter pilot and crashed a couple of airplanes, engineer, builder, endless travels... all true. His best story we witnessed... a fantastic Father who taught us so much. He may not have had much money but he never denied us his time or love... ever.
He taught us to pick principles worth dying for and to carry his name with honor because that is how it was brought to us.
This movie makes me feel so sad every time I see it. We had a concrete water tank just like that one at the farm. Dad rode his motorcycle until the week before he went to the hospital. I think he visited everybody in the county he knew and some he didn’t. An airplane would have been just better for thrills. He knew then he would die soon but he gave it his best for as long as he could!
I must be a real fool, I was waiting for the "helicopter arrival and the grandson of the Sheik" to arrive / appear.
Great Movie!!;-)
Just where was it filmed @??????
I hate to assume anything, when I have the chance to know for sure.
On today, Encore HD at 2:50pm (eastern time)!
