Being married could be the key to a longer lifeby improving your chances of surviving middle age, claim scientists.
People who never married were almost three times as likely to die early than those who had been in a stable marriage throughout their adult life, US researchers found.
The new research suggests for the first time that not having a spouse in midlife increases the risk of dying during those years.
Being single after 40, or losing a partner without marrying again, increased the risk of early death during middle age and cut the chances of getting to 60.
Even when personality and risky behaviors such as smoking and drinking were accounted for, married people were still 2.3 times more likely to survive.

well, duh. wives never let you do fun stuff, and fun stuff is either dangerous or unhealthy.
Another one for you know who to read!

Not equivalent statements. If 1% of the married people die, but 3% of the unmarried die, then the unmarried are 3 times as likely to die. On the other hand for married people to be three times more likely to survive, then at least two-thirds of the unmarried would have to die so you have a 33% unmarried survival rate and a 99% married survival rate. Any higher and you would need a greater than 100% survival rate of the married people.
My Brother died at age 66 almost exactly a year after his wife passed.
I guess I am going to die. Oh well....
Why do married men die before their wives?????
BECAUSE THEY WANT TO!!!!!
Good analysis — an important distinction. Are there no numerate journalists?

what about surviving middle age in an unstable marriage?
you know why. ;)
Yeah, the hookers and blow usually comes to end at marriage ;-)
My ex wife will live to be one day older than me. She was put on earth for one resaon only; To torment me. If I’d have shot her when I first wanted to I’d have been out by now. BTW, I’m 61 and have been divorced from the bitch over 20 years. The definition of a wedding ring is a viscious circle.
Um, excuse me, but could you please not bring reality into this?
hey I was Married, once. I dated a Women a few years ago who tried to STAB me (still comes by to retrieve the knife, Cops took her away with another knife).
NO I did not Read the Article.
None of the recent popes has died before the age of 60 (John Paul I was 65), and none of them were married.
. . . and by then, we’re willing to die anyway ;)
I read another study that said married people live longer. But it turns out they decided it just seems that way.
