Fewer young men in the US want to get married than ever, while the desire for marriage is rising among young women, according to the Pew Research Center.
Pew recently found that the number of women 18-34 saying that having a successful marriage is one of the most important things rose from 28 percent to 37 percent since 1997. The number of young adult men saying the same thing dropped from 35 percent to 29 percent in the same time.
Pews findings have caught the attention of one US writer who maintains that feminism, deeply entrenched in every segment of the culture, has created an environment in which young men find it more beneficial to simply opt out of couple-dom entirely.
Suzanne Venkers article, The War on Men, which appeared on the website of Fox News in late November, has become a lodestone for feminist writers who have attacked her position that the institution of marriage is threatened, not enhanced, by the supposed gains of the feminist movement over the last 50 years.
Where have all the good (meaning marriageable) men gone? is a question much talked about lately in the secular media, Venker says, but her answer, backed up by statistics, is not to the liking of mainstream commentators influenced by feminism.
She points out that for the first time in US history, the number of women in the workforce has surpassed the number of men, while more women than men are acquiring university degrees.
The problem? This new phenomenon has changed the dance between men and women, Venker wrote. With feminism pushing them out of their traditional role of breadwinner, protector and provider and divorce laws increasingly creating a dangerously precarious financial prospect for the men cut loose from marriage men are simply no longer finding

dude! this was a christian dating site! I mean come on.
My hubby and I have been married for almost 28 years. During our marriage, I’ve ONLY worked when I wanted to or when it was necessary. I’m not a career woman (spent most of my time as a receptionist or answering phones).
When our children were young, I stayed at home with them much to the amazement of most of my friends, It was of course the 80s. They actually thought I was nuts for not pursuing a career and didn’t understand that my family was my career. My husband was/is our bread winner and we’ve always accommodated his career which included sacrifices like relocating etc., which the same friends couldn’t understand.
Now that my children are grown and gone, I still do not work. I enjoy my hobbies, church, and I volunteer as an audio reader for the blind and visually impaired.
I guess you could say that our marriage has been a very similar version to Leave it to Beaver, except I don’t run a sweeper or do dishes in heels and pearls.
I get a lot of strange looks for not working or behaving in a feminist approved manner. And I gotta say, it bothers me when I hear women run men down. I don’t like it. I not only love and adore my husband, I admire and respect him.
The sad thing is, I don’t believe there are many marriages out there like ours. I am so thankful to God for my marriage, and I never take it for granted.
“this (My beloved freepers) is the only people online that I can possibly understand because I believe we all share a very common and purposeful goal.”
I see your point. when I talk of conservative issues there (or anywhere for that matter) I am accused of being too political.
ANyone can call themselve a “Christian”
This March it will be 19 years since he died.
“One night his key didnt work, and she waved him away from the living room window.”
She must have given some reason even if it was a bad one.
“Yep, Men hike, hunt, fish, go to the bar with their buddies, bowl, and even play video games and have lots of other fun hobbies” until they get married.
It’s not that women aren’t women anymore, it’s just that most of them are more addicted to soul-sucking television and other things that they don’t enjoy all the sex they should be getting!
Morgana,I once did a thread on the canteen on how you met the one you love.It was years ago and so beautiful. The men and women told their stories and I did a count.Eight couples met each other on Free Republic and married.Twenty something met on a dating service online.
I’ve “dated” a couple of really good looking liberals. Their good looks couldn’t elevate their stupid liberal ideals and opinions.
I am so sorry, HereInTheHeartland, about your marriage ending. After 28 years.. that has got to be a huge adjustment and heartbreak for you. Maybe my son is right.. I don’t know. It just sort of saddens me that marriages that were entered into for a lifetime.. don’t.
RIP Lewis Grizzard. You died too soon.
Also, the left wants to destroy gender roles, just look at some of the countries in Europe that push gender-neutral identities. Actually, I think some schools even here in the US have started to allow children to cross dress.
Deserved repeating + emphasis.
My parents worked it out, much to the chagrin of us kids. We got to go to church twice on Sunday, and attend Catechism on Saturday.
I won't have a television in my house. I've got plenty to do without that crap. And that's all it is.
But many just can't do without it. The thought of actual conversation is beyond them.

“Luckily for you, God will find a way to introduce you.”
Lufthansa into Kiev or Moscow?
Sadly, I think a lot of young Christians have bought into some of Hollyweird’s habits.
Just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean you are a conservative.
All the Women are in love with Obama.
Other Men just won’t do because, just like Mitt Romney, they don’t care about them like Obama does.
Here is my advice, HawkHogan: I have seen many marriages and the best always have one thing in common - marry a woman who if she were a man would be your best friend.
And before you poo-poo the idea, think it over carefully.
More than one American man has married an Asian woman only to have her leave him because she tired of being treated like a doormat that f*cks.
