The kid learned at least two things most kids are not learning in this day and age:

1. How to write a sincere, polite, coherent letter.

2. How to admit a mistake and take responsibility for it.

Those actions were rewarded. Jumping up and down and demanding a new one would not have been. Looks to me like that teaches a lesson.

Thank you for your response. However I still disagree. -(
(1)His father probably wrote the letter.
(2)He shouldn't have took the toy shopping.
(3)By saving up his own money rather than asking for a Federal company bailout would have driven home the lesson more impressively.
