True....the vast majority of LEO do not shoot dogs.

Although there are abuses by LEOs, and the dog shootings are tragic...I am positive there are a lot more irresponsible pet owners than trigger happy dog shooting LEO. Note that this family failed to properly set and take care of their alarm....which probably spooked their dog into a panic

People are just a little too much Savage and Levin when it comes to dogs.

What total nonsense. Look in a mirror and mouth these words you just posted to see how totally ridiculous they are.

The presence of intruders on the master’s property is what alarmed the dog—as it would any dog.

The very presence of the dog would alert an intelligent non-government employee to the fact that no burglar could have entered through the back yard.

The dog was shot because those officers *wanted* to shoot the dog.

And for every LEO who actually shoots the dog, hundreds of LEOs cover for their brothers and do not expose their corrupt ways.

Odd, that most here agree that the Muslims who support terrorists by being silent about what they know are aiding the terrorists by their behavior; yet that argument is rarely applied to the government employees in blue.

Any officer who speaks out, condemns the problem and does everything in his power to expose the guilty so that the guilty may be arrested and tried proves himself to be a peace officer on the side of the American people.

Freep-speak for "it's just a dog; get over it".

Ummm...no. The family made the grave mistake of leaving a door slightly ajar...setting off their alarm system which summoned two police officers TOO DAMN STUPID to figure out that the fenced in back yard was secure BECAUSE the family dog was back there. The LE coulda entered the property from the front clearing toward the back, where they and ANY FREAKIN CRIMINAL knew a dog was posted. The LE coulda freakin deducted that the alarm was a false due to the fact the DOG WASN"T FREAKIN OUT because an intruder was in it's masters house.

I am 5'7" tall and 155 pounds. Without firearms or help I have had two encounters with my ex neighbors pit bulls. The first time...my lab mix jumped on their male pit after it walked by our screen door. I grabbed the wrong dog...the pit...because my lab mix wasn't finished yet. The second time....I stopped the older female from killing the younger female from suffocation with the death grip she had on the younger pits throat. After I got her unlatched..all 3 pits turned on me.It was hairy...it was close. I suffered puncture wounds both times. But I got through both encounters without shooting any of them.

How? I'm a country boy. I know full well that to control any animal that breathes air...you control it's breathing. To make a pit unlatch...cut off it's air...it will let go whether it wants to or not.

A country boy knows how to read...approach...and handle a dog. We know of their self imposed duty to watch over the homes we share with them....and they will give their lives without hesitation for us. Just for some scraps and a "good boy" or two.

We also have been raised with a respect and skill in the art of killing for our food...treating the slaughtered like we would want to be treated if we were the animal. We get good at it. My region has produced an abundance of infantry throughout American history that has displayed it's skill in killing the enemy. I coulda easily ended those dogs lives. Had more reason to than the vast majority of LE dog shootings. The dogs weren't at fault for their stupid owners.

I ain't bad. I don't brag. I got pics and my wife was present for both. I only post to show how it looks for grown ass LE officers to claim 15 year old collie mixes...and labs...and chiuahua's a threat needing to be shot. I can understand shooting pits. But a man the feels the need to shoot family pets does not need to carry guns in public, nor wield the power of the state.

I have(Not own)a collie shepard mix very much like the dog in this story...along with luke the mix lab. My local LE and I have had discussions about my dogs and my reaction if they are shot for no good reason. It's not about being too attached...or elevating dogs to human status...or not having the sack to have the proper perspective. I have had to put my own dogs down.

It's about the fact my dogs are a priceless asset to me and my family that provide a security and peace of mind that no alarm at any price can ever provide. I sleep very well at night...with doors and windows open...knowing they are on duty. I sleep well without smoke detectors knowing they will wake me and my family a good bit sooner than any smoke detector. They are the reasons burglars and thieves go elsewhere.

Along with their duty they perform I consider priceless...it takes an investment of time, money, and love to fulfill my part of the deal...which will never come close to matching the service they give me.

On top of all that...IT"S JUST PLAIN DAMN WRONG TO SHOOT A DOG IN HIS OWN FENCED IN YARD DOING WHAT HE IS SUPPOSED TO DO. It's freakin cowardly and wrong. I do not place full blame for this change in LE policy over the years on the officers themselves...it was ordained by their unions because shooting dogs is much cheaper than a few dog bites that get infected in a year...and the paid time off. It's a heartless, gutless, decision putting a few dollars saved ahead of the family dogs of American citizens.

I thank God I live in a state where the majority of LE are like Sheriff Berry of Oconee county...who took a public stand for the 2nd amendment last week, and cannot understand what the national fuss is all about. I thank god that when my wife had a medical emergency earlier this year..and my dogs escaped from the room I had put them in....and my collie shepard mix went right to the closest LE to my wife with bad intent....he handled it without shooting her dead. He stood still long enough for me to put my dogs back up.

LE have been doing their job just fine for years without shooting dogs dead at the drop of a hat. For no good reason. This situation...like the thousands that have occured since the union declared saving money more important than the dogs of the citizens they are paid to serve...not only shows how much the unions think of us "citizens"...every family who has just witnessed Officer Joe suddenly murder their family pet for no good reason is another family awoken to the brutal truth that the police of their childhood have morphed into LE of today...A complex and vast police state built on the war on drugs and staffed by those who could give a rats ass about citizens rights, life, and property...by those attracted to evil but huge side money having the power to control the very enterprises you are paid to stop....along with the gov salary and benefits.

Not every agency has been corrupted. My state of Georgia and home range of Cobb and Douglas counties...even some APD I know...are fine, upstanding and fair officers of the law. CLayton county sheriff is rotten from the top down. The sheriff is a thug about to skirt the feds on a huge indictment to take the office he just cough...was elected to. He has hired two APD known for abusive, thug like, and corrupt ways so bad they got fired. Him and his agency are not respected by anyone who respects right and just in this state...including some longtime, old money, old school folks who will not suffer a thug criminal sheriff a long life.

This is still America dammit. My home and property are my kingdom...and I rule there. Not counting the cost in value, money, and service a family get's from it's dog....but the plain damn fact that having LE come in and murder the family pet is a DAMN HIGH INJUSTICE TO THE PEACE AND HAPPINESS OF MY FAMILY>>>>AND SHOULD ONLY BE INFRINGED ON IN THE MOST DIRE....IMMINENT LOSS TO LIFE AND LIMB SITUATION DAMMIT.

Shooting a dog in his fenced in backyard because of a residential alarm does not meet that criteria. Neither do the vast majority of times Americans have their pets shot down for the slightest of reasons having nothing to do with them or the dog. There have been a number of feds that have murdered pets with malicious glee and gruesomeness. There is a chilling pall cast by the sheer number of LE out there...with the power of force and law...that have no problem with this policy....or the one which has resulted in the shooting of innocent people regularly by LE in raids by tac squads equipped for combat...now being unleashed on farmers selling raw milk. How LE of today are a closed society upon themselves....the rest of us are perps or civilians.

You can trivialize the issue all you want. I understand the frustration behind posts from those trying to defend the good guys out there who do their job right and just. The most important issue here isn't dead dogs...it's the fact that we are now officially a police state...and just how far those who cower in fear of it will go to rationlize that fact.
