I’m just startin’ this sort of research myself, so I don’t have any ideas yet, but I’ll be watchin’ this thread.
Why was “.but not living next door to a pit-bull puppy mill ...” a requirement?
Obama tells us dog tastes good. Weren’t you taking notes when he said that?
;-(
How about Elko: http://www.city-data.com/city/Elko-Nevada.html
I’d find a way to live cheaply in Las Vegas. It’s a vibrant city with lots of access to everything. If you want to live close, but not in Vegas, how about Pahrump?
Would a Dachshund, or a Pekingese mills be ok?
I used to live in Carson City and nearby, also in Las Vegas.
Where will I retire?
Australia.
Too many latinos in Nevada.
Pahrump?
...man, then I’d be out at Front Sight every weekend for fire arms training. Pretty windy area, but growing and inexpensive and 45 minutes from LV... good possible choice.

Be sure to check out Smith Valley, Wellington area. Very nice.

I’ve been perusing Texas and Oklahoma this AM.
Try here: http://www.landwatch.com/
It’s a great site, I typed in “10 acres Choctaw county Oklahoma” and it gave me several options. Before discovering the “10 acres”, it included in-town lots when I searched on price.
I’ll second Minden/Gardnerville.
Many SLTahoe folks moved down there as the lake was too expensive. I have a few friends down there, and they love it!
Why Nevada......
Possibly because they are also sometimes meth factories? Just guessing from what is scattered around Barstow, where they likes their Harleys and Pit Bulls.
Why stuck on Nevada? Check out Arizona... have a good friend who just left this week to retire in Pinetop... A gorgeous spot about 3 1/2 hours Northeast of Phoenix. I like to ski and need to be near a decent sized airport.... Elko, NV might be a good bet as it is only a few hours west of Salt Lake City.
Regrettably, those meth factories are everywhere.
One was about 1/4 mile from my brother’s house — out in the country.
Another was 2 blocks from me in my town of 14k. It was across the street from an elementary school.
