Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedevs off-air comments that Russian Presidents are given a secret file about extraterrestrials living among us created much media interest. Most news reports claimed that Medvedev was simply joking. His apparent reference to the Men In Black movie as a source of information on a super secret agency that monitors extraterrestrials on Earth was commonly cited as key evidence that he was in fact joking. The reasoning is that no political leader would refer reporters to a comedy to clarify national policy. It has now emerged that Medvedev was not referring to the Men in Black comedy after all, but to a recent Russian television documentary titled Men in Black that reveals many details about an extensive cover up of extraterrestrial life visiting Earth.
However, a more accurate translation of what Medvedev actually said about the Men in Black phenomenon was: You can receive more detailed information having watched the documentary film of the same name. So Medvedev was referring to a Russian documentary film titled Men in Black, not the Hollywood blockbuster by the same name...
Russian Men In Black (MIB) documentary, a number of prominent UFO cases in Russia and the USA are discussed. The Roswell UFO crash is covered, along with a number of extraterrestrial abduction cases, and UFOs disabling nuclear weapons facilities. The documentary examines testimony that extraterrestrial bases have been established on Earth, and that some are in restricted US military areas with the full knowledge of the Pentagon. The documentary even goes on to seriously discuss President Eisenhowers alleged meeting with extraterrestrials, where agreements were reached with some of the visitors giving them permission to take some of the Earths resources in exchange for advanced technology...

Bryan has instructions to notify my best FReeper friend if anything serious happens to me. That FReeper will spread the word, whether I need healing prayers or RIP prayers.
Don’t worry, everyone will know what’s going on right away.
After my first look at Windows 8, I'm thinking my next computer will be a convertible tablet with an Android OS.
Windows 8?!
Unclean! Unclean!
I’d upgrade the system back to a real PC user OS like Windows Se7en.
For my money, the first thing should be whether it is running from you. If it is running from you, leave it be. I grew up in Florida where you could stumble across the occasional cottonmouth. We left them alone and they left us alone. Most of nature is like that, and I like it that way.
No need to ask for trouble.
Well, if you wanted a real PC user OS, you'd be looking at a Linux flavor, but I like Windows 7. Still, if Microsoft is going to give me the opportunity to make the break, then I'm going to make the break, not reward them for having built a stupid UI.
Android seems to be a pretty good OS for everything I'd need.
Linux, messed with it.
Not quite sure what to make of it.
rm* is a cussword.
rm -rf /bin/ladin
Execution Complete!!!
The Linux community is really interesting. Where else can you hear a phrase like, "I rooted your sister's box, and I didn't use a trojan," and know the nerds aren't talking about anything even slightly pornographic.
“I just goofed”
Are you in root?
“Uh. Yes.”
You eeediot!
Yes, that did happen.
Thankfully it was just a VM and could be reset.
Setting up Windows with an Admin account that will protect you from doing stupid things to yourself is an afterthought. Most people don't even know how to do it.
It's 2nd nature for any Linux installation.
Still, most of us don't even use the computers any more, we just use the applications. That's why I'm looking so seriously at Android. The OS is app-based, not system-based.
You have captured the spirit of Squeak the Cat.
Good morning! Ferocious wind and electrical storm last night. Crowbar kept me up most of the night. Items in backyard including a couple of panels from the greenhouse blew out. Everything should be very well washed.
Off to feed the horse!
Have a great day, y’all!
I have a severe dislike for touchpads and touchscreens.
I have never had such devices work reliably for me.
Ever.
“Oh, you clicked waaaay over here? OKay!”
And it’s nowhere near what I touched.
:-/
Windows 8 was designed for touch based systems, not tower or desktops that still use mouse input.
[Goes hand in hand with the lie that PC gaming is dead.]
There's no real room for a desktop in a Gotham-sized apartment. I have only used laptops (except at work) exclusively since about 2007. I see great potential for taking a tablet on the subway with me, but having a keyboard at my desk for when I want to do real work.
One of teh markets that a tablet works in.
The powers what are have been tryking to sell the tablets as a complete replacement for the desktop.
Which you and I both know is a nonsale as there are things that only a full sized full power wattage hog can do.
Threatened someone once with a copy of OS/2.
They didn’t know what it was.
One of my happiest jobs was as a Technical Editor for a start-up magazine that focused on the 32-bit personal workstation. This was back when the 80386 was a brand, spanking new chip. I had to run performance tests on three operating systems to appeal to the kinds of techies who would know what a personal workstation was.
When the magazine launched, we tested MS-DOS with DOS Extenders (to allow applications to use the RAM above 640K), SCO Xenix, and OS/2. SCO came out with UNIX shortly thereafter and we made the switch.
For those of you too young to remember (but techie enough to care), Xenix and OS/2 were 16-bit operating systems. UNIX was 32-bit. DOS Extenders worked with true 32-bit applications.
Microsoft had the temerity to write us a letter stating it was unfair to test OS/2 against Unix because the technology didn't match. We published the letter, along with the response that we were simply testing the best the user could buy, not trying to keep the playing field level. When discussing the letter our Editor-in-Chief said, "I bet OS/2 is simply smashing against CP/M."
Anyway, we had the Microsoft compiler folks talk with us, and the Microsoft OS folks talk with us. These were separate meetings. We asked each group when they thought they would support 32-bit systems. They both gave different answers. The OS group thought they would get there first.
That's when I stopped worrying that Microsoft would take over the world.
I seem to recall that way back in the day.
Of course, real innovation happened back then.
Now you have patent litigation and “I invented round edges and a screeen” claims in court.
My friend bought an all-in-one recently, never even considering it wouldn’t have Windows 7, and he is finally getting the hang of navigating. However, he also got a new laptop specifically to use with a PDA and a Windows 7 software program for racing data.
I realized yesterday that the laptop he got also has Windows 8, and that something needs to be done. Since the laptop is still in the box, I’m hoping he can return it, OR, barring all else, he will be able to afford to swap out the OS with Windows 7.
I can’t imagine what evil mind concocted Windows 8...it’s a blight on the internet.
Ugh.
The person, who shall forever be cursed and shall never know rest even in death, that came up with Windows 8 was jealous of Apple touchscreen devices and thought, “Hey, we can replace desktops with this thing!”
So now every desktop computer sold has an abominable OS that is not designed for desktops, but is instead more at home on an iPad like device.
The going joke is that Microsoft hired an Apple “fanboy” to design Win8 so that they could try to compete with the iPad.
By killing off their main bread and butter -desktop platforms.
I understand there are some pretty good UI replacements you can download and install. I don't know if any are free, but there is some positive noise about the solution out there in the Netverse.
I stumbled across a download for $128, but I can’t tell you where...I wasn’t looking for it...*sigh*
