“Once again I will quote my wonderful Grandmother.

“Take them to the field and horse whip them”.”

Your grandmother and I must have a lot in common.

Sorry, but I'm not jumping to any conclusions over this video. These kids are disgusting pukes and if any of them were my sons I'd beat them to within an inch of their lives just on the basis of their performance on film; that doesn't mean they participated in a rape, and based on the article you link to, the evidence is not conclusive that a rape occurred.

It “sounds” — although no finder of fact in an evidentiary proceeding has so ruled — that two boys not shown in this video sexually assaulted and possibly raped a young girl. But based on what evidence has been gathered so far, this town is likely to be divided on the question of guilt and innocence long after the verdict comes down. Emotions may force the prosecutor to press a charge that he can't prove.

Rape is one of the things I would like to see a torture penalty applied to.

I would be cool with that, if rape were a cut-and-dried crime, but there are so many false accusations out there, e.g. the Duke Lacrosse case, that I would refuse to condemn anyone to torture for it. When there is a murder, for example, you have a dead body, but with rape, a lot of times all you have is the girl's word that it was forced or that it even happened and, unfortunately, girls are known to lie about this sort of thing. You have the act on video where he is clearly raping her, or you have some reliable eye witnesses that testify he raped her, then fine, fry him. Otherwise, forget it. I know that stance is going to freak a lot of Freepers out, but the rape hysteria pendulum has swung far too much to the side of the politically correct and oppressive.

Also, I see so many people working themselves into a frenzy every time some drunk sorority girl claims a football player forced himself on her, but those same people wink and giggle at the idea of men being raped in prison. I find it absolutely disgusting and a true indictment of our penal system that this stuff is anything more than a freak anomaly, but, culturally, people have been brainwashed into believing that this sort of crime is funny as long as its happening to some poor man who got locked up for a year for smoking weed or getting into a bar brawl. So, I think I'll hold off on the orgy of righteous anger until we get some proper perspective in this broken culture.

You’re a lot kinder than I am. The guy stated over and over again that he knew a rape had occurred, to the point where some of the other people in the video are speaking up, telling him he could go to jail for this, and discussing whether they should go help the girl or not. Since none of them reported anything to the police, they’re all accessories to the crime as far as I’m concerned.

and when the boys openly brag about it on video, I guess that just just makes it more blurry?

lol

I'm not being kind, which I think you will discover if you reread my post. The video is not evidence of a crime, it's hearsay. The people listening to the kid on the video are receiving hearsay evidence as well. That doesn't make them accessories. Filthy, disgusting pigs, yes. Accessories, no.

The video can potentially be used against the juvenile speaking, depending on his level of involvement, and depending on how he testifies if subpoenaed or deponed. It's not evidence against the two boys who are headed to trial. Sorry, it just isn't.

The prosecutor has a very tough row to hoe. In the link to the article, it says that the victim has no knowledge of a crime being committed. The testimony evidence supposedly in his possession right now is of a sexual assault which may or may not be rape, depending on the laws of Ohio (and what the DA can get the jury to accept.) There is no toxicology report, and no rape kit was performed; in short, there is no physical evidence of rape.

Do I think a rape occurred? On the basis of the video I don't know, because this is not evidence. This is an extremely vile person actually bragging about thoroughly disgusting and possibly criminal behavior. Do I think the prosecutor will be able to prove a rape occurred? A jury, not people posting comments about hearsay, will decide.

Big Red Rape Report Divides TownView full sizeJoshua Gunter, The Plain DealerThe Steubenville High football warms up on the field under their mascot Big Red before a game against Benedictine Friday, August 31, 2012 in Steubenville, Ohio.

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — It’s Monday, and ominous-looking clouds are pushing over Harding Stadium as dozens of football players in practice jerseys prepare to take on Cleveland’s Benedictine Bengals.

But this day two key players are missing from the field.

Police had arrested two sophomore starters just days before and charged them with kidnapping and raping a 16-year-old girl from a town just across the river in West Virginia. One of them is also accused of taking a nude photo or video of the girl.

Several players still on the practice field are also believed to be linked to the incident. Steubenville police are trying to determine whether they were there at the time of the attack or sent digital images of it all over cyberspace.

Officials continue to investigate details of the reports — that the girl was drugged into unconsciousness, ferried from party to party, raped and urinated on before ending up at home where her parents, discovering she was disoriented, took her to a local hospital.

On the practice field, longtime coach Reno Saccoccia is planted inside a huddle of boys. He occasionally grabs a player by the shoulders and peers into his helmet.

Saccoccia is talking X’s and O’s.

The rest of the town is talking rape. ............”

This is a sick bunch of people, and not unique in this day. The perpetrators are more important than the victim because of their celebrity status. This and the Sandusky case are just the tip of the iceberg, it is widespread and there will be more and more cases brought to light

So, their admitting to it on twitter and such, doesn’t sway your very open mind? Defense attorneys love folks like you on juries

I wasn’t referring to this case specifically. I didn’t even watch the video or whatever they had at the link. I was replying to the general statement that rape convictions should include torture.

http://rollredroll.com/

As you are probably aware, this web site was recently hacked into illegally numerous times by a terrorist group. The outrageous claims they made while controlling this site were totally false, completely absurd, and totally unfounded. They were clearly both libelous and slanderous, and were not even intended to reveal truth, but rather simply to get media attention and terrorize the Steubenville community. Innocent people have been greatly harmed.

Unfortunately, several national media outlets, including the New York Times, have recklessly decided to aid and abet these acts of illegality and give the terrorists exactly what they wanted by disseminating inaccurate and legally actionable information and accusations. Incredibly, they have done so without even bothering to contact this web site for comment.

We wish to make it clear that we will pursue legal justice against the perpetrators of these evil acts and all of those in the media who chose to help them.
