Word For The Day, Monday, 12/31/12
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
abstemious;adj.
1. sparing or moderate in eating and drinking; temperate in diet. 2. characterized by abstinence: an abstemious life. 3. sparing
Etymology: 161525; < Latin abstēmius, equivalent to abs- abs- + tēm- (base of tēmētum intoxicating drink) + -ius -ious
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
The generation into which I was born regards abstemiousness as a cardinal sign of charactar; today’s generation has no use for such virtues, having confounded freedom with license.
“Fred Flintstone”
Close! (LOL)
Gabagoo is Tony Soprano’s favorite luncheon Meat. I think it MIGHT be Capcola.
Kind of like “Prazhooot” is prosciutto.
As in:
Tony:
“Where’s da Gabagoo?
I had some in da fridge
right behind da prazhoooot.”
Carmella:
Don’t you remember, Tony?
You ate it last night.”
Tony:
“What da F@#%$ are ya talkin’ about?
I didn’t eat the F$%^ing Gabagoo!
If I ate the F^%&*ing Gabagoo, I woulda eaten da F&*(ing Prazhoot too!
It’s Dat F^&*ing Kid of Yours!
Carmella:
Whadaya mean MY F*&^ing kid?
He’s YOUR F^%&*ing Kid Too!!!!”
(c 2000, the Sporanos, reprinted without permission LOL!)
that is beautiful~! A+++
isn’t that the truth!
no regrets, start afresh the day after tomorrow! A+++
LOL!
:-)
Gabagoo (Capicola) is an essential element of Paglia e Fieno Carbonara, a delightful dish I am no longer allowed to partake of.
The Sopranos went into repeats on A&E. The Station edited out all the profanity.
It was unintelligible. LOL.
Guess the Redskins won? there was no tsunami of suicides this AM in DC so i figured they mustve won ; ) A++++
Sounds Delicious!
Another Interesting Italian Dish (which is probably too salty for either of us!) bears the unfortunate name of “Pasta Putanesca” or “Prostitute’s Pasta”.
I like Italian Cooking, especially when it goes beyond Spaghetti and Meatballs!
Carmella’s “Riggggot Pie” is especially Tasty!
sounds kinda like Jersey shore. funny i never saw even one episode of the sopranos, but i did see one or two of jersey shore! LOL!
Oh my gosh I remember that! What a horrible show to love.... we are always joking about gabagoo
You Frum JOISEY?
What Exit? LOLOLOL
The Sopranos was horrible but we loved it - the connection between the mob and unions was especially telling.
so very true. it sickens me. A+++
I hated the way they ended it. I thought my TV broke!
Since I had a dish, I thought maybe it fell off the house, got struck by lightening, or maybe I forgot to pay my bill.
Yes...especially in the Sanitation and RECYCLING business!
