So, I'm sure at least one person here on FR has wondered what happened to me, maybe two of you. Before I really really stopped posting, many of us had discussed the possibility, and or the desire, to get out of the city to our own little homesteads and try to grow some food, for security, for peace of mind, for whatever reason.
Well, my family did it.
Two years ago we made the jump. We bought a place in the country, and have spent the past couple of years setting up our little homestead. We have a big garden, many chickens, some ducks, some guineas, some sheep, some goats, and a barn for all of them. A woodstove, a hand pump well, even a solar chicken coop.
Any of my old pals, and any new ones, come check us out! Would be pleased to hear from you, and share what we are learning.
Please ping any of my old buddies that you know of; I seem to have misplaced my old ping list!
It’s good to see you return! Mrs. Outrider and I did the off the grid shuffle back in ‘09. Posted a series on the move on NW_Arizona_Granny’s threads back then.
It’s a great adventure going “Galt”! Humbling as well... So where did you end up?
S’ok here.
Good to see the farm and pix.
Happy New Year!
A lot HAS happened! What’s going on with you these days?
Good luck to you, te! I missed you not posting. You have your hands full cutting out a new lifestyle for your family! Love your website.
It is a very humbling experience, but we are so much better off. It's great for the kids, too. We ended up in the Kansas countryside; very few rules around here, which is the way we like it.
Although I have to say, being back here and seeing familiar faces does feel rather cozy. :)
And the goat milk makes great yogurt and cheese, and make some chedder cheese so it will last.
It's not just you, FR has been stutter posting for a while.
Our does won't be ready to breed until spring, and then probably only the Nigerian Dwarf will breed, the other two not till fall. So we are a ways off from having milk.
Thanks for the ping.
How are you doing?
Not much has changed for me in regards to my mast cell disorder. I had a bout of MRSA in Oct and spent 2 weeks in the hospital and am still here. *sigh*
I’m jealous of the homestead.
I do what I can, when I can. The rest gets done by hubby and the kids.
I still take the ketotifen when I have a really bad reaction, loads of anti-histame stuff too. Hey, I found a website the other day that made me think of you, it's called the low histamine chef, maybe you would think it interesting...Allergies, Histamines and Using Food as Medicine
I figured I would rather spend my time creating a safe, happy place for my kids, than spinning my wheels in doc office after doc office, living in the city.
If I can do it, anyone can. :)
This is funny, but last night on the way to the movie, my adult daughter and I stopped at a local Taco Time. You’ll get a kick out of this, but there was a decal or small sign on the take-out window that said something like: “This store was not built by the government, we built it ourselves!” or “This store was not built with help from the government, it was built by us!” or something of that nature! It was clear enough to read if someone was looking straight at it!
It was a little round, clear decal with a group of words, and I happened to see it while waiting for our change! I told my daughter what it said, and we were discussing why it was there. I told her it was in reference to something the President said awhile back; and the person who owned that franchise felt perfectly free to put it up there!

I had a lipoma removed from my back and somehow it got infected.
Had it out on a Wed afternoon and by the next Tues AM was in the ER with a BP of 57/46, and still conscious. They didn’t know why I was conscious, but they sure did move.
It hit FAST. If mr. mm had gone to work that morning before I woke up, I likely would have died from it.
With the ketotifen, do you take it as needed or all the time? I was on it but had some side effects that I decided weren’t worth it and went off. It does seem to help better than anything else though.
I also tried something called DAOsin that I got through Swanson supplements. It is diamine oxidase, which binds to free histamine in the body and helps relieve the symptoms of too much histamine. It really does pretty well, but is not cheap.
Right now I’m reacting some from something I ate yesterday and am about to take a prednisone (as suggested by my allergist) to see if it helps like he said it should. Then I’ll be hitting the sack.
Thanks for the link to the website. I’ll see if there’s anything I can use from it.
Oops, double post; double sorry folks! “Post” button must’ve been stuck!

No one has taken the threads over. A fellow called Kartographer has started a survivor (Prepper) thread which has taken on a life of it's own. I wonder if he is aware of Granny's threads... there is much on them that he could use if he had a notion too. I'm pinging him to this one just as an after thought!
We ended up in Northern MN btw...
Hey howdy!
It’s FR that’s causing the double posts, some sort of glitch. It’s been happening for quite some time.
Somehow I missed the news of Grannies passing. What a loss.
I enjoyed her threads as well.
