Tracey White's initial impression of "Django Unchained," Quentin Tarantino's new slave-era shoot-'em-up extravaganza, could be summed up in three words: smart, funny and ugly. Sitting through a recent screening in Beverly Hills, the L.A. costume designer was mostly absorbed and found herself laughing aloud at particularly outrageous moments.
But White, who is black, said her feelings evolved significantly. Two days after reflecting on the matter of slavery and Tarantino's treatment, she pronounced the movie mostly ugly.
"He [Tarantino] gets a good product out of it in terms of wit and a visual look," said White. "But when it was over I found myself wondering, 'What is he trying to do?' I enjoyed the movie when I was in there, but I still have a problem with Tarantino when he deals with our race."
White will certainly not be alone among African Americans in her ambivalence about the gleefully outrageous film. While "Django" has nabbed almost uniformly warm reviews and four NAACP Image Award nominations (including for best picture), the fact is that it is an extremely Hollywood-ized vision of a critical black American experience.

Geeze. Blacks are constantly offended.
It’s no wonder America elected a black man. Its no wonder America confirmed a black man to the Supreme Court.
It’s no wonder we pay good money to black entertainers and purchase their products. That guy Damon of FUBU must shake his head everyday wondering why Americans don’t buy more of his products from his several companies.
Sigh....It must be a bitch to shave your black face each morning, while conjuring up all kinds of offenses that will be visited upon him all day.
Very creative folks ....
Hmmm, that is strange.
I’ve only seen “From Dusk...” twice. It’s too gory. PF is fine, but I don’t lionize it as some do. Wasn’t all that big on the Kill Bills, only having seen them just once. I may only see Django on a movie channel in the future, but my opinion of Jamie Foxx now is nearly that of Sean Penn or Harry Belafonte.
I would say it’s just cashing in on the violent day dreams of the viewing public.
Yes, and while I haven’t seen this movie yet, I’ve gotten the impression that he is trying to basically repeat what he did with IB, but replace Jews with Blacks, and Nazis with slave owners. I think he believes that, by framing what is basically a violent pulp revenge story in these type of scenarios, he is adding some “relevance” to his films.
Really, he’s not doing himself a service. His movies can be enjoyable, but he is not going to really “clean up his act”, and start making straight, meaningful dramas like a Spielberg. The audience that wants a story with some political commentary and subtext isn’t usually the same that wants a mindless, profane, violent escapist fantasy. So, by trying to mix these genres up, I think he just ends up disappointing everyone.
Jews in danger have a defender in the person of this gentile should the need arise. Without reservation or hesitation. But then my creed demands that of me for any victim class.
Got to teach them to hate whites in order to keep them on the plantation.

You think “Jackie Brown” was crap?
Blacks should be angry. The movie trivializes their history. Now, they know how many of us feel, too, when Hollywood caricatures us. But I doubt if that will cross the minds of many people. I mean this year we’ve had Lincoln as he never was in film, and it happens all of the time that the media and Hollywood change the story to fit their worldview even when the truth is just as fascinating, often more so.
Same here.. thought PF was pure crap.... Don’t understand how anyone with an education could like something like that :/
Lol.. just realized that the spell-check didn’t like your name ;)
I agree. I bet if the same movie was released in 1975 as a spaggetti/schlock western for 100K no one would have raised an eyebrow on either side. You can say that for pretty much all of his movies. He releases the same movie in 2012 with a 2012 a-movie budget, 2012 special effects, famous idiot actors, and 2012 24 hour mass media and it’s a big deal on all sides.

Thanks!
But the credit actually belongs to the Department of Justice.. before 2009 when it became the Obama-Holder Department of Just Us and Our People. To speak of actual and accurate crime figures today is of course racist.
While I did the top 2 rows and the years typed by hand... the rest was copy/past from your information...
Took me a good 2 years to learn Excel to be comfy :p...
Now, I am re-learning Spreadsheets on Libre (Linux).. a pain to re-learn... but at least I can copy/paste now ;)
Getting to the subject.. none of this surprises me at all.. I’ve seen this build up for the past 2 generations :/
What ‘they’, the libs, have created.. is going to implode soon... whether it is physical or not, we will soon see...
(you, I, and the other FReepers know exactly what I am talking about...
And, to Windflier, no offence intended... but I think you know what we are talking about... :/
I haven't read the thread, but I think I know what you're talking about. I take no offense to it. It is what it is.
Sadly, a lot of decent people are going to suffer for the crimes of the minority, should all this come to pass. I may even be one of them. I would hope that if things ever go 'hot', that folks on our side will have the observational skills to differentiate between ferals and decent people.
