Five NFC teams are fighting for two postseason spots, and the race for first-round byes in the AFC remains convoluted.
The Cowboys lost, but the Giants' loss later sets up a winner-take-all Cowboys-Redskins game on Sunday night for the NFC East title.
The Vikings remained in the No. 6 slot in the NFC but also were big winners, as the Giants and Cowboys' losses mean Minnesota doesn't require help to make the postseason.

Thanks campaignPete R-CT.
I enjoy professional football.
I also enjoy watching the Detroit Lions play.

will the NFL ping list arrive?
tiebreaker thread:

As a Packer fan, I hope they win and get a bye but wonder if rival Minnesota at home whose season is on the line will be too much for them?
The Ravens Bengals game will be interesting to watch, Ravens fan here.
They may see each other again in the first round of the playoffs.
Houston exposed the weakness in GB offensive line that will be exploited by the Vikings, sadly.
YEA, and we might see CIN @ BALT and MINN @ GB in the first round. Boring.
I am glad somebody enjoys the Lions. At home, they may give Bears a real challenge. BTW, there are 2 CBS games (1pm EST and 4 pm) and 2 FOX games (1pm EST and 4pm) plus the NBC SUN nite (WA vs DAL). An extra game the final week.
10 a.m. football on the west coast must be less than ideal.
the NFL ping list is showing up in great numbers this week! (Except for the Jets fans.)
I don’t know, the Bengals are always tough to beat.
Go Ravens!
I like the flashes of talent they show, but I’m once again fed up with them, and am not sure I’ll waste time watching them next season. If they have a 4-0 or 4-1 start, then maybe. They have a red zone problem — they kick a lot of field goals instead of scoring from, say, the 3 yard line — that dates back to the 1990s. They didn’t lose by much in most of their losses this season, but they still lost; they had one victory margin of 17, but despite that and a bunch of close games (including consecutive losses by 4, 3, and 2) they’re -63 on the season (so far).
My guess is, they’ll end the season in an appropriate fashion, by eking out another hard-fought defeat, and having lost eight straight games. Last year’s flash of halfway-decency and a playoff berth was a distant memory before that losing streak started. It has been pathetic, IOW, it is no longer frustrating, because I haven’t expected them to *maybe* win since before Thanksgiving.
I’d be more patient, and optimistic about the 2013 season, because the new regime had to pull them out of a seven-year-deep hole dug by the reprehensible Matt Millen and the silver-spoon owner who seems blissfully unaware of his own inability to pick competent managers, but that’s been my usual stance for most of the seasons during my lifetime.
The fact is, the Lions are a losing franchise, and anyone in their right mind / anyone who has another option should not come to the organization in any capacity.
I thought for sure Detroit was on the way up three years ago. They looked like they were putting together the pieces, taking the long view, then...they just killed themselves.
I thought it would be interesting to have a resurgent Detroit Lions team, but their failure irritated me, and not because I am a Detroit fan (Pats here)
One thing that irritates me in all walks of life is self-wasted talent. I had a young guy working for me a few years back who was brilliant. I wished I had half the quickness, sharpness and innate ability this guy had. But he wasted it and we ended up firing him because he was lazy (not to mention a workplace wrecking ball)
That same feeling of disgust and irritation rises in me when I look at Detroit. They have some huge talent, but...they seem so darned undisciplined. It seems wasteful.
That seems like it is going to be a pretty good game. Bengals surprised me this year.
They were (and maybe are, still) on the way up. Last season would have ended better, perhaps with an outright division championship, definitely with a defeat of Green Bay, but Suh acted like an a-hole and got tossed from that game (Lions lost the lead and the initiative) and was suspended for some more games. He’s a playmaker, and this season he had just the one incidental contact with a QB’s babymakers, could have happened to anyone. His growth and maturity should be of great benefit to the Lions next season.
This season it hasn’t been the defense’s fault, or at least, they’ve had the least fault. Special teams has turned to wet tissue paper, getting back to their decade-long form of yesteryear. Offensively they can’t sustain drives, even when they look hot, something happens and suddenly, three and out. Or a turnover. Or a stupid penalty.
My guess is, someone will be getting fired, but it won’t be the head coach, and it won’t be fair. The team isn’t that far out, but a miserably bad losing record leaves everyone bitter, fatalistic, and wanting out. They have the best QB they’re likely to be able to get, and had better not waste any resources on getting one of the over-the-hill (or never got to the top) QBs likely to be out of a job, or already out of one, to serve as another backup. It might not be a bad idea to trade their 2nd and 3rd string QBs to grab some more muscle on offense. Calvin set a record, but he also had maybe what, two TDs all year? Ludicrous. With just a little help upfield, he’d get clear a lot more often.
Uh-oh, I’m sounding optimistic again. I’d better knock that off.
Hahahahaha...you are...a...FAN! "...so, you better get used to the idea!" (SLAP)
Lets go Redskins!!
