Here is the thing.

If you look at the polling data, a lot of the so called 1% are liberal. The only object to having to pay more money for their own policies.

The GOP is going to the mattresses to protect them, and that isn’t playing very well with the rest of the nation. In two years, when the adds come back out, how do you think that will play?
The GOP has been turning its back on social conservatives for some time now. Look at Newt saying that we need to “accept” gay marriage. They are doing so to build a coalition of voters. Yet they are actively killing that coalition by chasing the the carrot Obama is laying out right off the cliff.

If they want to win again, which I honestly doubt, the GOP needs to decided which group of voters will help them more. They have decided to jettison their social conservative base, and are looking to stab gun owners in the back. That leaves those who make over $500,000, who they are willing to crash the government to protect.

How many votes are those?

We have this problem where the theory underlying telephone opinion polls has collapsed. Some of the old timers like Gingrich and Romney are having a difficult time getting beyond the good old days where most polls, most of the time, were pret' near if not totally correct ~

I think they don't know enough about statistical analysis to understand what's happened.
