He speaks of Jesus as if he were just an ordinary prophet of peace, no more elevated than say, Mahatma Ghandi, MLK, etc. He further debases his “praise” by equating elements of faith in Jesus equal to other religions.

You have a humanization of Jesus, coupled with an equalization of other religions (I’m sure in his mind Allah and Islam) in which he is only making this perfunctory speech because he’s still not yet ready to proclaim he’s a Muslim.

Starkly, Jesus said he was the Son of God. Not a prophet, not just a human who wanted to good, to be equal with Muslims - the Son of God. If he can’t reserve the celebration of his birth on that day without humanizing and diluting the claim he should have just shut the hell up.

>>He speaks of Jesus as if he were just an ordinary prophet of peace,

According to the koran, Jesus is the greatest of all prophets (until Mohammed). It says that he is nothing more, but that he will return as a destroyer of those who blasphemed allah by declaring him to be Son of God (and that, folks, is us Christians).

This is obviously what Obama believes too.

Jesus IS God, who came to earth in human form, and as THE ONLY sinless being was an acceptable sacrifice to die for our sins, so that to those who believe this, they may have eternal life.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

However,

19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. (John 3:19-20)
