Something like 8,000 new members per day, unlike anything previously seen.

There will be an epic fight over gun control and gun bans in 2013.
2013 elections will break heavily republicans. Lots of state level elections.
Hopefully, democrats will keep pushing the issue in 2014.
*ping*
Let’s in this fight first. They cannot take our rights.
I am, and I am renewed to...oh...2016 or something!!! Haven’t done the lifetime thing yet.
Recently upgraded to Life Membership. Glad I did!
It’s on my to do list. :)

NRA sees surge in membership after Connecticut school shootingSource: Fox articlePublished December 19, 2012| FoxNews.com
The National Rifle Association, while staying mostly quiet in the immediate aftermath of the mass shooting in Connecticut, has registered an average of 8,000 new members a day since the tragedy, an NRA source told Fox News.
While this broadly aligns with trends seen after similar incidents in the past, the surge in membership this time is said to dwarf past trends.
The source, based on his access to an internal memo prepared by the organizations membership division, said both the number of individual contributions to the NRA and their average amount have risen significantly in this period.
Back in 1968 there was only a few hundred thousand NRA members. Bu 1969 there was over one million.
This is turning out to be just like the 1968 panic on guns.

Look at what Lyndon Johnson said about the NRA when he signed the 1968 Gun Control Act into law.
“Congress adopted most of our recommendations. But this bill—as big as this bill is—still falls short, because we just could not get the Congress to carry out the requests we made of them.
I asked for the national registration of all guns and the licensing of those who carry those guns. For the fact of life is that there are over 160 million guns in this country—more firearms than families.
If guns are to be kept out of the hands of the criminal, out of the hands of the insane, and out of the hands of the irresponsible, then we just must have licensing. If the criminal with a gun is to be tracked down quickly, then we must have registration in this country.
The voices that blocked these safeguards were not the voices of an aroused nation. They were the voices of a powerful lobby, a gun lobby, that has prevailed for the moment in an election year.

Damn right!
I joined Saturday.
I’ve read about another 2nd Amendment group that’s good as well. Don’t know much about them - just read several recommendations. Worth checking out.
I support Gun Owners of America and Second Amendment Foundation more. The NRA has come too close to mealy-mouthed compromise. Nor did I approve of their attempt to limit political action committee and political ads to organizations with over a million members, like themselves.
