: YouTube video allegedly shows golden eagle trying to fly off with toddler
MONTREAL - A viral video appears to show a giant hawk trying to fly off with a human baby, and now people are trying to determine if the video is real.
A man posted the video on the website YouTube. It appears to be shot with a camera phone.
The video starts with a skyline pan of a large eagle in the sky. After a few seconds, it swoops down to the Montreal park below, where a parent and child are in an open grassy area.

On one of the Alaska State Troopers show on TV, on one show, the Trooper talked about Eagles attacking people walking along the beach in this one fishing town. Said it happens all the time.
“Notice the kid not only magically floats in the air after being “let go” he actually rises for a moment.”
Looks to me like the kid is not cleanly released. First the right claw lets go and then the left. To me, the “float” could be accounted for by the left claw snagging on the coat as the eagle lets go. You can’t see the actual talons clearly.
I don’t know if it’s real, or not - you would think that the victims would have come forward to tell their story, if it were real; but the kid flinches just before impact - very nice detail for a faker to add. Also, it would have to be a huge golden eagle.
Sorry, that analysis doesn’t prove a fake, and certainly does not prove an OBVIOUS fake. He had to get into significant magnification and do a frame by frame review to come up with his debunk, and even then the debunk doesn’t work all that well. Check the comments at the video.
The shadow is going to move quickly with the bird, and will get more defined as the bird gets closer to the ground, that the shadow is in one frame and not in another doesn’t prove anything. And apparently the eagle’s talon caught a cord on the kids jacket which jerked him upward after being dropped.
This vid is more likely to be real than faked.
I would never have imagined that....wow
Don’t know if the toddler thing is legit, but I recall seeing video of herders in Mongolia hunting wolves with eagles. The eagle would either kill the wolf or pin it down until the herder could ride up and kill it.
Freegards
Doesn’t look fake to me, but if it is, the faker should be working for a CG company, because he has serious skills.
Exactly. Think about it, first you would need a video of an eagle going after something on the ground, and that of course would be easy. Then you would need a video of a toddler sitting on the ground and then suddenly flying into the air and back down again, with the mother noticing it and running towards him. Then you would need the ability to merge the two together such that it would take a magnified frame by frame analysis to show it was fake.
Yah, serious skills indeed!
Back in 1961, a young Hispanic boy told me he was attacked by an eagle while a baby. His mama came out and grabbed him, and there was a short tug of war till the eagle let go.
I think one way to pull it off would be to obtain the eagle footage and then stage the footage of the woman reacting to the “attack”. Merge the two videos together. The toddler could then be a complete CG effect, except for the last bit when you see his face after he is released.
Also, Forrest Gump did not really do all that stuff...
Anything is possible. But if I had to lay money on it I would bet that the video is not faked. Especially considering what the eagle did to that deer, flipping it over and lifting it slightly into the air. That deer certainly weighed a LOT more than the toddler.
If that video is fake then all videos are suspect. I think one could do a magnified frame by frame analysis and come up will all manner of reasons for declaring any video a fake.....the moon landings for instance. Some people still think they were staged.....lol.
If it’s a fake it is very well done. I’m just surprised no one is on the news talking about it, not the photographer, or the victims. Bear attacks, shark attacks, dog attacks - they’re all over the news as soon as they happen; that’s what makes me question this video more than anything, because this would absolutely be unique.
I saw a Red Tailed hawk pick up a squirrel from back yard. The squirrel managed to wiggle free about 20 feet up in the air and slowly scamper off. I child would weigh a lot more than a squirrel but that doesn’t mean the hawk wouldn’t try.
Agreed. The “toddler” while being “abducted” looks like a doll.
You would think. However, if that was my child I would certainly tell family and friends but NOT the media. I wouldn’t tell the corrupt slimy media Jack Schidt about anything for that matter.
If I were the cameraman I would be very concerned about exactly what has been done i.e. declaring the video a fake and so would not go to the media either for fear of public embarrassment.
We will never know. What we do know is that it is certainly possible for that baby to have been attacked by an eagle and lifted into the air.
On the other hand, this was probably just a screen test for “The Hobbit.”
There is something wrong with the direction of shadows. Look at all the trees in the background and the shadow of the eagle. Also the tree and people shadows are going to the left when the eagle first enters the landscape and then they are going to the right as the eagle gets near the child.
But, but, but...it seemed so real!
