: YouTube video allegedly shows golden eagle trying to fly off with toddler
MONTREAL - A viral video appears to show a giant hawk trying to fly off with a human baby, and now people are trying to determine if the video is real.
A man posted the video on the website YouTube. It appears to be shot with a camera phone.
The video starts with a skyline pan of a large eagle in the sky. After a few seconds, it swoops down to the Montreal park below, where a parent and child are in an open grassy area.

Holy Cow...it’s a good thing Mom was close by.
Bald Eagles on the Saint John River Valley of New Brunswick, Canada regularly take small pet dogs and cats right out of people’s yards, usually in the warmer months at dawn.
Many are saying it is faked. So easy with today’s digital tools and the web.
I’m not saying that it is fake.
Who knows? I can see how it’s very real.
Bird sees prey, instinctively snatches it, finds it’s too heavy to fly with for more than a few seconds, and certainly cannot climb with the weight, then instinctively releases it.
But who knows?
With the web, you can’t be for sure.....
Interesting video thought.....
If an eagle can attack and kill a deer it certainly can kill a toddler.

How much does an eagle weigh? Because that kids got to be, what, 20 lbs?
OMG!
Like bald eagles, golden eagles can lift about three or four pounds, a bit more if they swoop down with some airspeed and grab something.

Doesn’t look fake to me....the “oh sh#t” sounded very sincere. That bird took the baby up about 3 feet and dropped him. Might be a good idea for the eagle to do some weight and balance calculations before trying that again.
Yeah, it’s real. Good thing it dropped the kid at a low height. If it had gotten much higher and then dropped the kid, oh man. And if it had gotten to a tree somewhere...oh well, some things are better not discussed.
My sister who lives on the outskirts of Walsenberg, CO said an eagle snatched her full grown cat.
She said it was really creepy the bird just came down several times, then grabbed the cat and that was it.
The video is so obviously faked for those who care to watch it even a little closely.
What about the video in post #5?
“The video is so obviously faked for those who care to watch it even a little closely.”
I watched it closely. Looked real to me. How was it so obviously faked?
Appears legit.
But that does not make the baby video any more genuine.
Didn’t look fake to me. What are the indicators that it is faked?
I'd like to know too...

Notice the kid not only magically floats in the air after being "let go" he actually rises for a moment.
(This being the only video I had seen of the "incident" I thought people were crazy for proclaiming it real. Now that I see a more distant, real-time video is being posted, I could see why some would think it genuine. Alas, it is still fake).
Your video confirms it is real. He magically floats for a second because only one talon let go. He floats up after release because of upward momentum.
The child is moving his head before he is grabbed by the bird.
Your video confirms it is real — at least to my eyes.
We don’t have many eagles around here, but we do have owls who do swoop down and carry off small pets as well as wildlife. The large owls weigh about 4 pounds and can carry 3-4 times their weight (goes to show how powerful their wings are).
