The NRA chose the single-issue attitude to politics over objections by its membership.

The NRA is and always has been a sinlge-issue organization. As an institution, they don't care about taxes, Obamacare or abortion. Their only concern is defending the right to keep and bear arms and they'll support the candidate with the best record of doing so regardless of their political party or where they stand on other issues.

Yes, and their single issue has been money, and just like the media they leverage fear to make theirs.

I'm a lifetime member of both the NRA and GOA, but when it comes to my dollars now, when I contribute it's to the GOA and the JFPO. The GOA and JFPO use the money to actually defend the right to keep and bear arms as opposed to enhancing their political position.
