NJ teen wants Easy-Bake Oven to appeal to boys (barphalert)

Four-year-old Gavyn Boscio loves to cook and asked for an Easy-Bake Oven for Christmas. But when his big sister went to buy one, she discovered to her disappointment that it comes only in girly pink and purple, with girls—and only girls—on the box and in the commercials.

So the eighth-grader from Garfield, N.J., started an online petition asking Pawtucket, R.I.-based Hasbro to make the toy ovens in gender-neutral colors and feature boys on the package.

By Friday, 13-year-old McKenna Pope’s petition had garnered more than 30,000 signatures in a little more than a week.

And celebrity chef Bobby Flay, who owned an Easy-Bake Oven as a boy, is among those weighing in on her side. …

The freaks think they’ll “domesticate” young males; instead they are just guaranteeing that they won’t even cohabitate anymore (they won’t need to).

Marriage is basically off the table already.

I don’t really see the problem with this. Many boys grow up to be bakers and chefs. Look at the popularity of a show like Cake Boss. Boys like treats like cakes, brownies, and cookies as much as girls do. There’s nothing wrong with making an Easy Bake oven in a color like blue or red for boys. Some of the cookware supplies could come in fun shapes like cars and dinosaurs.

I think we should leave those decisions to the company not a stupid politically motivated online petition.

They can start their own company and do it

Your breakfast looks pretty good - except for those black things on the front of the plate. What is that?

What came out of the Easy Bake oven. ;)

Toss the Easy Bake in the trash and teach the kid to cook on a real stove.

Beat me to it. I had mine using a real kitchen knife at 3, was flipping crepes at 5 and was able to put out entire the Thanksgiving spread at 12 the year I was too sick to get out of bed.

I think so. I saw one at Walmart the other day.

I didn’t have an Easy-Bake oven but I had a Lite-Brite. That was fun.

Girl, here. When I was little, I’d catch large minnows and clean them for frying on the real stove. If they had eggs in them, those would get “scrambled” in the skillet. I never saw granny bat an eye but then I was the only one allowed in her kitchen.

As a small child I thought the kiddie ovens were lame and dumb. At least the play houses with the fake kitchens and fake pantry food were all 100% make-believe. And the dog could participate as well. He especially loved munching on the fake miniature cereal boxes, although I suspect he swallowed a few of the Campbells soup cans. The pantry ended up bare but oh well it was the neighbor kid’s playhouse and dog, so no biggie. :)

Boys NEED Easy Bake ovens that will go to 300 degrees F.

You raise the temp of bearings to enlarge them so they will slide onto a shaft in a transmission, etc.

When they cool the inner bearing race shrinks to grip the shaft.

You heat the bearings with either an induction heater or an oven.

Make it out of stainless steel. Put a 500W Halogen bulb in it. Include recipies for baking up small batches of C4. Include a set of carving knives made by Gerber or Ka-Bar. Then it might start to appeal to boys.

When I was a kid I loved my sister’s Easy Bake oven. Made a great target for my BB gun.
