“All the ‘preppers’ in those TV shows and magazine articles are not preppers. They are simply nerds in need of attention, and wholly deserving of any mockery they receive.”

I have a differing opinion: Those people ARE preppers and many preppers mock them and that makes the prepper mockers just like the people who come on these threads and mock us.

I think it's not a good idea to be on TV, but I don't mock these people because I don't want to be like the ones who mock us.

It's like the mother yells at the child for doing something she didn't like, and the child, to vent his displeasure, kicks the dog. Someone kicks us on our threads, then we kick the TV preppers. I can't do that.

There are some preppers on that program that have “stuff” I wish I had. Some also have great locations. But, I still would not be on TV as that is too much exposure.

Marcella (and I'm pinging a bunch of us to this one), this is what happened to me a few weeks ago:

Back on Nov. 23rd, I was approached via email on another forum, asking if I would consent to be interviewed by the media on the subject of disaster preparation. Innocent enough - until I started researching the interviewer.

The media outlet is the Floridian View, based out of Daytona Beach, FL. It's a monthly pub with a website of its articles. Trolling around their archives showed them to be an upscale, "yup-to-the-minute" clique, who could not control their urge to make snide comments about conservatives and Christians, and sneer at us "plebs" out in flyover country.

Now, we have had to endure the mocking and ridicule of "Doomsday Preppers". We have had media producers troll this very website for soundbites that fit their agenda. I also heard from self-proclaimed "voices of reason" stating that we should embrace these media types in an effort to "get the word out". But whose word would it be, ours? Or theirs?

My opinion of the media has formed from personal encounters both during wartime and back stateside. I have posted my position on this for all to read. I don't trust these Leftist collaborators any further than I could throw them.

The deal-breaker was they wanted pics of me, The Tribe, The Bunker and ALL my preps. When I came to the conclusion that consenting to this would blow the hell out of OPSEC, that was when I pulled the plug.

1st Rule of Prep Club: You do not talk about Prep Club.

Marcella, you’re right. I know several of the people who have been on Doomsday Preppers and they are the real deal. Joshua Wander who was featured this week is a former IDF soldier, was in the U.S. military, and is an Orthodox Jew. He really does prep. He had his jewishpreppers.com blog way, way before Doomsday Preppers came along.

There are others that I have met, including a young man and his family who are in the process of moving to Costa Rica — that’s their way of prepping.

Based on the Doomsday Preppers that I personally know, none of them went on the show to gain fame. I don’t think they were prepared for the ridicule they’ve received from their, “allies”, people like us. That’s really a shame.

I know from personal experience that reality TV has very little to do with reality. When the editor goes to work on the final piece, you have no control over the outcome. That’s the big gamble they all take. Sometimes it has seemed to me that they portray one prepper in a more sympathetic, admiring light while setting up others to appear more bizarre than they really are.
