It isn't important why I dont have a drivers license.
There are numerous reasons why the DMV will not issue you a drivers license, from MADD to child support issues.
But if I drive down to the border, will I be asked for a drivers license?
What are the chances of being asked for a drivers license?
And if I am asked for a drivers license and cant provide one, what might happen?
And the same questions for coming back.
I know I will need a passport for coming back into the US and I have that. But will I need a drivers license to get my car back into the US, as well.
Thanks in advance to the smartest people in the world here on Free Republic.
That Cell is a lot Prettier and CLEANER than the one I spent 2 days standing in in Tijuana...
TT
Don’t drive, fly in and back.
It is if you're driving with a revoked license........You're in violation of the law dude and considering your nonchalance on this issue, I hope you get busted.
As for your desire to attempt to enter Mexico without valid ID, I even question your motivation in doing so........You don't sound like the type of person I want to travel abroad with.
Oh yeah, if you get a red light going into Mexico you will be subject to much 'exposure' 8^(
If you get stopped in Mexico without any driver’s license, its going to cost you some money. Probably whatever you’ve got in your wallet, if they like you. More if they don’t.
I was stopped with an expired license, and after a friendly conversation and a sincere offer to go with him back to the station, I got the fee down to what I had in my pocket. He was a nice guy.
You've already proven that by admitting you're driving with a suspended drivers license here in the states.........no sympathy from me.
Just tell them the car you’re driving is stolen and you won’t have any problem.
I never would drive south of that border without 2 good forms of ID for the American side. For the Mexican side I take at least 500.00 in 20’s, split up and hidden and a copy of my border insurance. If going to Mexico I’d highly recommend a rental with Mexican plates.
Then you get what you deserve.
CORRECTION!
A Level of Stupidity and Ignorance that Brands this Idiot as an Obama HUSSEIN VOTER this past november!
I pray he drives into Mexico and tries to come back to Heaven!
He or She is “A Total AHOLE!”or one os Obama’s Brother’s! A MUSLIM TERRORIST! just as Obama HUSSEIN IS!
p.s.The Definition as defined by Websters is: “IS!” There is no other explanation! Obama HUSSEIN IS AN ABSOLUTE, TOTAL MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD TERRORIST HELL BENT ON DESTROYING AMERICA!
It is my dads car.
Your dad's insurance company DOES NOT COVER UNLICENSED DRIVERS, nor does anyone elses.......
In post #22, you stated "I want to go down and stay."........Does your dad know that you're taking his car to Mexico with no intention on returning?
Your story is falling apart dude and whatever reason you have in going to Mexico is going to get you busted because of your obvious stupidity.......
If you as a gringo drive in Mexico without a license and without approved Mexican insurance and get stopped plan on going to jail and staying there until your trial. Then you will need to prove you didn’t break the law or you’ll be spending time in jail. If you are in an accident even if you aren’t at fault you’ll be in jail for a very long time.
You MUST have a valid DL to drive into Mexico. The largest obstacle is the insurance - you need to either call your agent to see if they will issue the appropriate docs for Mexico or you MUST stop at a border agency to buy a Mexican policy. Be sure to have your registration or rental contract as well. Also make DAMN SURE you do not have a firearm in your vehicle or any stray ammo - it can garner you a life sentence in Mexico.
I drive into Mexico several times per year.
It's either that or he risked people's lives by driving drunk and lost his license. And he's blaming MADD for it, instead of his own thoughtless and dangerous actions.
I pray this AHOLE gets caught by a Texas Ranger here and gets thrown in a Texas Prison for Life! which probably will not exceed 45 days before the Dirtball expires!
“It’s either that or he risked people’s lives by driving drunk and lost his license. And he’s blaming MADD for it, instead of his own thoughtless and dangerous actions. “
LOL. Actually we don’t know his circumstances if a DUI - plenty of non-drivers have gotten them, and plenty of people well under 0.08 BAC have gotten them. I’ve researched the subject enough to know to never prejudge people that simply have a DUI, without knowing the context of it.
On the other hand, this guy is sounding like a nutcase here, so it’s hard to defend him much.
For later.

A friend of ours (kids' Godmother) just moved back here from Mexico. She was held up down there twice (by the SAME GUYS!), once while driving and then at her house (they evidently paid off policia to look up her MEXICAN license plate to find her address). She was sure she was going to die during the first holdup and lost a lot of money (she won't tell us if they had pointed a gun at her -- I think they did or something even worse). Apparently not much happened during the second hold up partly because she had junk cars parked outside her house to make the family look poor (a trick often used in third-world countries). So I would say having a Mexican license plate doesn't make you particularly safe down there. Maybe a Mexican license plate on a junk rental car is the way to go.
This is either complicated or simple, where are you going to enter Mexico and return? San Ysidro or another Port of Entry? Do you want to gamble with your dad’s car and your freedom? Is it imperitive to travel by car to Mexico or is their an alternative such as having someone else drive? Are you at least 18? If not forgetabbout it...How long will you be there and how far south are you going, do you need a visa? Do you know the requirements?
Chances are you will not be asked for a license going into Mexico, but if you get a red light in their customs line you might be, and you certainly will be talked to and have to open your trunk. Occasionally US Customs stops vehicle southbound for checks and questions occupants. Coming back you maybe asked for registration and even license. 99.9% chance your license plates will be entered into the Teasury computer (TECS) if you have a Treasury issue it may or may not pop up...since you have a passport, apparently you owe less than $2500 in child support or its something else or an old passport...
Now the simple part, does dear old dad know you want to drive his car without valid US (or Mexico) insurance in Mexico, and did he give you written permission? Do you have bail money or would you call daddy to bail you out?
Oh yeah if you go about 10 miles south of Tijuana dont be surprised to get stopped by Federales in uniform carrying fast and furious type weapons to check you out for contraband...If that happens you will probably crap your pants...
