It isn't important why I dont have a drivers license.
There are numerous reasons why the DMV will not issue you a drivers license, from MADD to child support issues.
But if I drive down to the border, will I be asked for a drivers license?
What are the chances of being asked for a drivers license?
And if I am asked for a drivers license and cant provide one, what might happen?
And the same questions for coming back.
I know I will need a passport for coming back into the US and I have that. But will I need a drivers license to get my car back into the US, as well.
Thanks in advance to the smartest people in the world here on Free Republic.
Take a bus.
I want to go down and stay. ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS WHETHER THEY WILL ASK ME TO SEE A DRIVERS LICENSE WHEN I CROSS THE BORDER!
Dude says he has a passport to get back home.
YES!!!
Contact the Auto Club. They are a reliable source of information as to driving in Mexico.
No.
Your US drivers license, in good standing, is honored by Mexican law if you have Mexican approved or sold liability insurance.
If you don't have a US license, you don't have a Mexican license.
“Why are you driving at all if you dont have a drivers license?”

Dude, tell the Mex border guys “Dude, I don’t need no steenkin license.”
Yes but ... your insurance likely won’t cover you. If it doesn’t, you’ll need insurance in Mexico. There are many companies in Mexico that will give you short term ins. it’s pretty easy.
“You have to have a Mexican drivers license to drive in Mexico.”
No, you don’t
I dont give a crap about what is legal or illegal.
WILL THEY ASK TO SEE A DRIVERS LICENSE WHEN CROSSING INTO MEXICO BY CAR?
WILL THEY ASK TO SEE A DRIVERS LICENSE WHEN RETURNING FROM MEXICO BY CAR?
Not that they are enforced or enforced correctly, but Mexico does have laws.
Yes you need a license to drive in Mexico. One from here or from there.
The surest way to get arrested in a foreign country is to parade around not obeying laws like your more privileged than the residents.
Obviously in the US we allow illegals to do just that. But believe me, Mexico doesn’t like it one bit.
Since you have a passport, why not just take public transportation to Mexico. Then it’s not an issue...
If you don’t have a license you don’t have valid insurance either.
But you may be onto something once you get across intact.
I know enough Mexicans who won't travel south unless business or family demand it, and demand is the operative word, they just might need all the new blood they can get.
That's assuming you can support yourself and don't care much about personal safety or property rights.
Insurance, really what company will insure you if you have no drivers license?
WILL THEY ASK TO SEE A DRIVERS LICENSE WHEN CROSSING INTO MEXICO BY CAR?
WILL THEY ASK TO SEE A DRIVERS LICENSE WHEN RETURNING FROM MEXICO BY CAR?
Your answer, from what others are posting, seems to be yes.
So, be prepared to be arrested on one side or the other if you go.
And you don't have to shout.
Oh, forgot.
You need at least a passport card to get in.
Plus, of course you will need a drivers license to get back into the states. Those are Americans you will be dealing with coming back. Do you think they will let you drive into the states without a license?
You have your answers. Asking again and again will not change the truth.
No you don’t. I’ve driven plenty of times in Puerto Aventuras on an American license.
You just rent one like anywhere in America and get their insurance.
