It’s a well known fact that statins (Lipitor, lovastor, etd) are analogs derived from a compound first found in red yeast rice and used as an herbal treatment in China for the last two thousand years or so.

It’s also known that it CAN BE very dangerous, so much so that the FDA BANNED the import BANNED the importation of red yeast rice if it had higher than a certain percentage of the natural compound.

Not sure, but the ban may have been lifted...

the “buzz” I’m hearing now is the big pharma companies spending big bux trying to come up with an analog for 25 hydroxy calciferol, stuff we mere mortals call VITAMIN D!!!

Compounds of things can be a lot more effective than the original substance so sometimes it works out well. Other times they create their own problems.
