In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
assoil \uh-SOIL\, verb
1. To absolve; acquit; pardon.
2. To atone for.
Example sentences:
Come up, wives, offer of your yarn! See, I enter your name here in my roll; you shall enter into heaven's bliss; I assoil you by mine high power, you that will make offerings, as clear and clean as when you were born (lo sirs, thus I preach).
-- Bennett Cerf, An Anthology of Famous British Stories
"Go, and assoil thy living patient: the dead are past thy cares." " I go," said the Monk of Montcalm, " and Heaven grant that I may shed around his death-hour, that peace which, I fear me, bloody prelate, will be denied to thine!"
-- Charles Robert Maturin, The Albigenses
Etymology:
Assoil is derived from the same root as the similar word absolve. However, assoil came into English through the Middle French word asoiler rather than directly from Latin like the word absolve.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Yeah. A Japanese import. I’m sure it will wear off quickly, but it is amusing what people will do for a chance at a little bit of money.
One of my park friends told me this am that her brother was laid off. Guess who he voted for? He got what he deserved.
Omigosh, I was afraid one of you would go there. A for you.
Are you forgetting Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
You knew someone would.
good grief, i guess that chapter doesn’t have many MENSA members if they thought that photo was a good idea!
Not bright, but also not guilty.

i sent Santa an email last evening with the iphone5 case that i want. not really in need of anything else. xshub’s bday is next Tuesday. We are having our Christmas party next Sunday, so will be soliciting new and interesting recipes for that. This weekend we need to get the tree up and decorate. Saturday is a HDO, and i am to read at that Mass bc it’s the anniversary of my dad’s death 12 years ago. Holy Rosary apparently does the Mass in combo with an Advent Lessons and Carols extravaganza complete with readings/songs in English and Italian.
I have an easy one for an onion/cheese dip if you want it. It’s very tasty. Just need some crackers to dip.
