You might wonder why someone like me, who has been in the business of encouraging disaster preparedness for a very long time, is so critical of people who are doing just that. Its because they are being socially selfish preparing themselves and the hell with everyone else. Instead of spending time and energy making changes that would benefit the larger community, in their very narrow focus of loyalty they are more concerned about themselves.
Emergency Managers cant afford that kind of attitude. It is diametrically opposed to everything we do. Our job is to prepare individuals and communities and jurisdictions and regions and ultimately the globe for disasters, knowing we wont always succeed. I could find statistics about how unprepared some citizens are, and then show you hundreds of active and volunteer CERT teams preparing whole communities. In major disasters (think 9-11 or the Christ Church earthquake or Superstorm Sandy), survivors for the most part WANT to help each other.

Here is real proof she is clueless:

Why would I worry about others who can be doing the same thing themselves? Sorry not going to feed anyone outside of the family if SHTF.
Are you allowed to hunt on that land at this time?
The huggers like hiking & Biking trails because they have a way to stop hunting.

If you try to warn people that they should be prepared for an extended emergency the vast majority won’t listen and they’ll call you a kook. I wonder how many people who were/are affected by hurricane Sandy had ignored warnings to prep?
And, if you do prep. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QdvGnKaI54 Watch the first minute. If you don’t want to watch, it’s Rand Paul saying the gov’t views you as a suspected terrorist if you have 7 days worth of food. Think about that, the gov’t says you’re an enemy of the State if you’re prepared for an emergency. Is there anybody left who thinks they have your best interests at heart?
I have never understood why people do not inherently realize this and ‘conduct their business’ IE talk about their prepping activities so openly on the net.
Sit down, shut up and do what you need to do to get ready for hell without painting a damn target on your back folks!
Sheesh!
“Youre in no position to help anyone else if you dont take care of yourself first. If you dont, youre a victim too.”
It seems to me that this is what the woman writing the article would prefer—that everyone in an emergency should be dependent on the government. I’m sure the people are much more easily controlled and subdued when they are not able to care for themselves. I find her attitude sickening.
“Selfish people project their flaws on others and parasites get the most indignant when you call them on it...”
Yes, and we’re supposed to believe that the parasites that voted for Obama weren’t doing it for “mo’ money mo’ money mo’ money” and Obama phones....
I'll live my life as I live my life, and if that causes my demise, so be it.
I refuse to cower. That's what freedom is.

He’ll be the first one at a preppers door when the SHTF.
Hope he’s nice. Or he might have a fist sandwich for lunch, or worse. Catch lead poisoning.
The takers of our nation could give two shyts about me. Why should I care about them?
I’ll take care of me and mine. And maybe a few people I know who ignored me when I said “put some food away, put a side of beef in the freezer”... but if you live in my house, you will come first. Period.
Enough with the commie sharing bs.
This is a she!

Read up on the “grey man” survival system. It advocates keeping a low profile and keeping quiet.
But the difference is that you would not be among those shocked by a police state takeover/bragging about how well prepped/stocked you were on websites monitored for that very thing.. The people I’m talking about would be threatening to call their lawyers as their house was raided and supplies confiscated as they were thrown in the back of a truck.
I know what little I have could be taken away, but I can guarantee the takers won’t like the purchase price. I will bet they won’t even like the opening bid.
All generators food guns will be nationalized in a super disaster.
I’m thinking that less and less. The reason? Because all the people you think are going to just kinda whoopsie-daisy go door to door and collect the goods, those people have families and houses and neighborhoods to.
Call it mass defection if you like, but they, like everyone else, will be worried first and foremost about their own skins.
Never understood yapper dogs.. When the wife was finely talked in to it I got a hound. Granted he’s a basset hound, he knows what to do in the tall grass. He turns up the Rabbits and birds :)
He’ll run across a highway after a tennis ball (well.. never tired it but I know him pretty well. he would!) and bring it back, but retrieve a duck or rabbit?
Umm no. But he will sniff it out for you and show you where it landed.
A hearty FU valerie.
I’ve learned the old adage that you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink certainly applies to prepping. All my exhortations to joining the effort or buddying up on purchases all fell on deaf (and dumb) ears.
So I and my family do what we can to plan and defend our family. I won’t have some ditz telling me that I’m selfish for doing so.
To hell with her.
