Unusual activity at Syrian chemical weapons sites amid rumors Assad is dead or fled

Western intelligence officers were seeing new signs of activity at Syrian chemical weapons sites, they told the New York Times Sunday, Dec. 2. “It’s in some ways similar to what they’ve done before,” a senior U.S. intelligence official said. “But they’re doing some things that suggest they intend to use the weapons. It’s not just moving stuff around. These are different kind of activities.”

DEBKAfile’s Middle East sources add rumors were flying around the region Saturday night and Sunday morning that President Bashar Assad had been killed or fled Syria. Neither is confirmed. However, the rebels have in recent days made major strategic gains and begun to turn the tide of war against's Assad forces.

The new rumors tie in with the suggestive movements of chemical weapons detected by Western intelligence without any indication of their likely target.

Always take Debka with a big grain of salt! But worth the read.

Jerusalem Post

‘West worried by Syrian chemical site activity’

http://www.jpost.com/MiddleEast/Article.aspx?id=294260

Western intelligence officials have noticed new worrying signs of activity at chemical weapons sites in Syria, The New York Times reported on Saturday.

The Syrian regime is “doing some things that suggest they intend to use the weapons,” one American intelligence official told the Times, adding, “It’s not just moving stuff around. These are different kind of activities.”

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Israel would weigh military action if it suspects Syria’s chemical weapons could fall into the hands of a terrorist organization.

“We will do everything that is needed” to ensure Syria’s WMD stockpiles are not transferred, Netanyahu said at a meeting with EU ambassadors stationed in Israel in October.

I posted the New York Times story under separate thread.

NYT did the interview and buried this comment in the story. Go figure.

There is reason to believe that Zero through the MSM is using the chemical weapons scare as a way of inciting additional public opinion against Assad. Do we really know if the rag tag ‘resistance’ is making the significant inroads against Assad that we read about in the MSM? My belief is that this story line is trumped up BS to justify providing additional aid to Jihadist fighters. Do we really want another Egypt in the Middle East?

Is this activity around where Syria keeps its WMD or where it stored Saddam’s non-existent WMD?

It is very possible. In this case, you have DEBKA on one side, and then you have Obama, his State Department and the US Mainstream Mass Media that covers them?

Who you gonna believe?

I would not put it past this Administration to arrange some kind of "Gulf of Tonkin" or U.S.S. Maine incident we all learn later was staged for various purposes,, to rile us up and get us committed in some direct way. Also, there are all KINDS of scoundrels worming their way into the Syrian opposition (I am not saying Assad is a saint here either), outright jihadists, salafists and Al Qaeda type, opposing Damascus. And we are going to get in bed with THEM???

Like I said, Debka vs. US Mass Media. Pick the most credible and that which would tell the truth to the people. What you say is entirely plausible, and they are just boosting up a force that is nowhere near seizing power in Damascus, and if they did, the US could still reap a mightly blowback just as we are now getting out of Cairo and at the UN (over Palestian observer status). There is a lot that stinks out there.

Do you hear the coming hoof beats of war? drastic changes will be forced upon us all if the war should come. Syria hits Israel, Israel hits back, and its war that will see Israel attack. Why would Syria do this? To unite her people behind the dictator in the face of a common foe. Then Israel hits Iran, with nukes, Egypt hits Israel, Israel blows Aswan dam. Then things start to spin out of Control!

The inroads made are in direct proportion to the number of our "contractors" that are part of the rag tag 'resistance'.

Assad is backed by Iran, Russian and China. Our current policy is to support the Syrian rebels. What if Assad leaves the country and his forces, in desperation, launch chemical weapons on a rebel town?

Iran, Russia, and China could not back a regime that comitted international war crimes.

With them out of the way we can move forward with our agenda in the middle east.

See Iraq, Saddam Hussein, chemical weapons, kurds.

Rumors that “the big boss” is dead, fled or in hiding tend to undermine the morale of his supporters. And the only way to dispel it is with a personal appearance, which such dictators are loathe to do, as they have a big target painted on them.

They also provide an opportunity to suggest that one of his lieutenant/underlings is planning to seize power, which can paint a big target on him as well, from several directions.

Third, it tends to undermine the confidence of allies, who start considering hedging their bets in case the rumors are true.

If Syria is going to hit anyone with chemical WMD, it will be the countries that are currently attacking Syria. Mainly Turkey. And the idiot Turks have no defense from Chemical WMD missiles targeting their cities. They have been screaming for a missile defense system lately similar to Israel's. Too little, too late. NATO and Obama are sponsoring the Turks along with the Sauds. So attacks against NATO, Sauds and the US interests using Chemical and Biological WMD's are no doubt in the cards.

Is the US even monitoring the Chemical WMD sites across Egypt that are under the control of the Islamic Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist organization ? Syria first acquired its Chemical WMD from Egypt.

If the Syrians use Chemical WMD on Turkey, it will be WWIII going hot and full bore. At that point, international war crimes will be mute. Thousands will be dieing from Chemical and Biological attacks in the region.

With them out of the way we can move forward with our agenda in the middle east.

And that current agenda appear to be getting Chemical and Biological WMD's into the hands of Islamic Sunni terrorist organizations. You do not realize something. Russia, China and Iran now HAVE to stop the US. Obama's stupidity, ineptitude and cronyism has given them no choice.

“Has Debka ever been right about any of its outlandish claims? Ever?”

Yes, however this time I highly doubt it as they are quoting New York Times as their source!

It has been getting much worse. Can’t believe that people actually subscribe to it.

The Syrian army will use or attempt to use chemical weapons on the Syian rebels, thus causing international outrage. The Iranians, Russians, and Chinese will have to withdraw their support for Assad. This will allow th installion of a democratically elected dictator.

Overthrowing unfriendly/unstable governments and installing soft dictators is our current policy. See, Tunisia, Egypt, And Libya.

There are numerous articles coming out now with concern about Syria using chemical weapons. Turkey is requesting NATO missle defense systems in fear of chemical attack. These articles are being floated in advance of the event IMHO.
