I dont believe in firing warning shots. If you have cause to shoot then shoot center mass.

Agree. Certainly for self-defense, that’s rule number 2 (rule number 1 is to ALWAYS be the first one to call 911). In this case the shooters are very lucky to have not been charged - and most likely it’s because there’s no racial angle to it (as I understand it). It’s a risky move, doing what they did - but it really will hit home with other teens that may be prone to trying a stunt like this.

Agree ~ warning shots, without a specific target in mind, could very well end up in someone not involved in any of this.

Always best to have a target.

Surprising they'd let the shooters off after they admitted they weren't actually defending themselves or their property. Wouldn't want those guys in my neighborhood at all ~ we have some embassy folks here and I've seen them carry their automatic weapons in and out of their homes ~ I do not want them encouraged to return defensive fire ~ ever!

True. However, my wife came home one day and when she stepped in, she noticed the back door had been kicked in. She immediately stepped out and drew her gun from her purse and walked around the house at a distance to see if anyone was still there. When she finally stepped in, she found the blinds in the bedroom pulled aside where they evidently heard/saw her pulling up and then beat feet. She must have come home before they got a chance to get started because nothing else was disturbed. She was so mad she stepped out and fired a shot into the ground and hollered that if they came back, they would be bleeding on the ground. Our house is in a wooded area and they must have been in the woods nearby because there was no car involved. Our neighbor had been broken into the same day and had a lot of stuff stolen/destroyed. We assume they heard the shot and understood because our neighbor got hit again the next week but we were left alone. Not a warning shot per se, but it served the purpose to let them know that even the woman of the house was armed and willing to squeeze one off...

Firing warning shots can get you into trouble if you’re claiming self defense, it proves there is doubt about the magnitude of the threat.
