I worry about it being free. Most, if not all, open source is free. WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, PHP, MySQL, etc.
I take it you are running on a Linux server?
The software (framework) you need will depend on what your site does.

I moved from Blogger to WordPress about a year ago and have been delighted with it. It provides great flexibility, from site design (very simple with numerous free templates from which to pick) to content. WordPress hosts my site (and, of course, many others) without charge; I have never paid anything.
If my site were intended to be provide even a minimal income, I would probably have to find a host and pay for its services to have Google or other ads. However, that is not why I blog.

I just emailed and asked my site folks whether they are on linix and I am waiting their reply. Would I have to install linix too in order to run the software and do the uploads? I do love my IE and Windows. Hey consider the source, me!
