OK,We got lots of them.I’m in Pa.I am starting not to feel safe in my home when everyone is away and I don’t ever want to feel that again.
There are a large number of guns which would be fine for home defense. I think the two most important things to consider are reliability and ease of use in the middle of the night.
One gun which you will never go wrong with is a Sig P-226. They seem to fit just about everyone’s hand and are dead stone cold reliable.
The same could be said for a lot of others but the Sig is pretty common.
Now that I think about it, there is a Walther PP in .380 about two feet from my bed right now. It would be about as good in .32 or even .22LR. About six feet away is a Winchester Defender pump loaded with seven 00 Buckshot tho about any shot size would work.
I would prefer a Remnington 1187 automatic but the Winchester is tactically as good as any.
When my wife and I were first married, I had a Browning Hi-Power but when a drunk tried to break in one night, the gun I grabbed without thinking was a Ruger 10/22 rifle. I probably should have grabbed the Browning but the Ruger was about as good as anything. I can remember confronting the guy and wondering if I would have to shoot him or if I should just punch him in the chest with the barrel as he was not really physically large enough to threaten me even if he attacked.
Fine then either get a 20 gauge shotgun, or .22 caliber rifle. I recommend either Remington semi auto, or Ruger 10/22. Both the shotgun, or the .22 rifle are easy to use and operate with little practice you can hit what you’re aiming at.
I assume you are a woman and that’s why I suggest these type weapons.

It's likely to be a revolver but not necessarily (especially not if the bug bites). My Mom's firearm of choice is a sturdy Smith and Wesson Ladysmith in .38/.357 magnum. She's 83.
Nothing is more empowering to a woman than the means to defend herself and the determination to use it if necessary.
