To Deirdre and Charles Wright, their 4-year-old Newfoundland named Rosie was a member of the family a big, hairy, doe-eyed friend and companion who "aided in their enjoyment of life, well-being, personal development and daily activities."
To the trio of Des Moines police officers who confronted the barking bear-of-a-dog in the driveway of the Wrights' home two years ago, she was something else entirely.
"He doesn't want me to get very close," one of the officers is heard saying on an audio recording from a patrol cruiser's dashboard camera, the deep bark of the dog in the background.
-snip-
"He doesn't want to play," one officer is heard commenting. About a minute later, another officer says, "I'll shoot him. Let's just go shoot him," according to the lawsuit and dash-camera audio.

Same here - they would know no peace. For starters I’d be wearing a t-shirt that had “These cops shot and killed my dog” with their pic’s and of my dog on it.
Way too many of these stories lately. Way too many!
LOL...series?
Dang, it's even worse than I thought.
It does conjure up memories of those Crossman pump pellet rifles though!!
Contemptible, disgraceful, and disgusting!
Dogs KNOW that cops are not their friends.
Saw it on FARK and some news site but yeah ...
Shoot a police dog = be treated as though you shot a police officer.
Shoot a private citizen’s dog = “It was just a dog....”
I've put barking dogs back in their yard after they jumped on the gate, opened it and came out to "visit" with my dog.
How hard would it be to get the dog back in the yard and raise the fence? What is the point of getting a dog license if the gov't doesn't use the paid for data to protect and serve?
Cops are always acting stupidly when it comes to pet dogs.
The dog wasn't even barking at the LEOs when shot. Even more reason to make them accountable.
And cops wonder why some people call them pigs.
Justice for ice. Check it out on Facebook. Another dog shot down for no good reason. It’ll break your heart
I don’t know folks, the officers spent an hour trying to corral the animal. It is true that animal control doesn’t work on sundays in many places. Taser’s can work on animals but I don’t think it is always effective. This is one of the reasons why I put a catch pole in each of my patrol cars. I learned once from a Sgt when I was a road officer a little trick; I had 2 large dogs that were about a block from home. The male was agressive when I approached. My sgt suggested that I open the back door of my car and step back. Both dogs jumped into the back seat. Domesticated obviously. I have used that since but the catch poles would have worked.
Another one was this Chicago cop shot the family pet in the yard behind a fence. Cop said she was 'feard for her life' - it was a cocker spaniel.
In the past if I saw a cop in trouble my first thought would be how can I help. Now if I saw a cop in trouble I would think maybe they deserve the ass whooping they are getting.
“Shoot a police dog = be treated as though you shot a police officer.
Shoot a private citizens dog = It was just a dog”
EXACTLY CORRECT.
Poor pup.
Stupid bastards...
