Anyone Remember The Film "Slap Shot"

Does anybody remember the film "Slap Shot?" I ran across a Trailer on UTUBE that brought back the Hockey Mania in Boston in the 60's and 70's.

In those days you could always get tickets to the Celtics but the Bruins were always sold out. My cousin was a Gallery God, we always got in along with an ample supply of beer from the packy across the street.

The most interesting thing I saw were the women in the crowd calling for blood during a brawl, common in the old days, reminded me of Rome.

The movie reflected alot of what I saw in those days.

They were in the same league with the San Francisco Seals. My dad took me to the Cow Palace in 1962 to see the Seals play the Los Angeles Blades, as well as the Portland Buckaroos and the Seattle Totems.

“Loved that movie and Kansas City Bomber!!!”

Funny, “Kansas City Bomber” came to mind as I was scrolling down and then I saw your post!.....I remember we were about 12 years old and caught the bus right in our front yard...It took us downtown to one of those huge old one screen theatres with a balcony (think it held about 1500 people all together).....We stayed and watched it twice back to back......It has since been demolished along with the 4 or 5 other one screen theatres......I feel a pain deep in my gut when I think of those days.....World was much better then.....And America was still free......Eating a burger at the lunch counter ect.......

I loved the Bruins, Bobby Orr was magic and Derek Sanderson was hot!

Slap Shot reminds me of those days too. Hockey was a simpler sport back then.

Yep, I remember ‘em well. The WHL was one rough and tough league in those days and they sent a lot of talent up to the ‘Original Six’.

Grew up with minor league teams in Buffalo,NY.

Remember many times the puck would be dropped at the same time as 10 pairs of gloves.

I SO wanted to be a Roller Derby Queen when I was little. Sigh.

That and being a mermaid at Weekie Watchee. Bigger sigh...

Still held out hope until I had to pay a mortgage.

One of the Hanson brothers became head coach of Memphis’ short-lived minor league hockey team several years after “Slapshot”.

I thought Slap Shot was filmed in Pennsylvania? Where John Murtha was congressman?

That’s what they told us was the rally spot!

They used both the Johnstown Arena and the Utica Aud. They had a big call for extras for a week, I think, too many years ago.

Had a buddy in the Army and people called us the The Hanson Brothers since we both liked hockey and both wore the godawful Army issue glasses.

Race: If you look at the out door shots and remember the hills around Johnstown, it fits. Probably filmed at the Murtha auditorium.
