I remember him from the '60s. I left Western New York in '77, and I'm not sure how much AM I was listening to then.

RIP, Jeff.

Do not miss the WKBW version of the War of the Worlds, which was Jeff Kaye's baby. A riveting adaptation of the 1938 classic, it caused similar disbelief when it was aired in 1968 and again in 1971.

The 1971 version is available at the link. Queue it up, turn out the lights, and let your imagination run wild.

I grew up about 40 miles south of Buffalo in South Dayton, NY [back living there now] and WKBW was all I listened to. I still remember when Mom would drive all of us down to Florida to visit the grandparents. This was in the early sixties.

On the return trip, starting around Richmond, VA, I'd start testing the radio to see if WKBW would come in. It ususally didn't show up till Point of Rocks, MD -- and then only if sunset was approaching.

But when when we could finally listen to "KB," we felt like we were almost home. Sorry to hear about Jeff Kaye's passing. May he rest in peace.

I used to count on him to close our schools during the winter. He took over after Clint Buehlman (sp?) retired.
