PALM SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — A Camp Pendleton Marine was shot and killed by police officers in Palm Springs, according to reports Monday.
KNX 1070′s Tom Reopelle says the Marine was reportedly out celebrating the Corps’ anniversary when the shooting occurred.
While the deceased’s name was officially being withheld while family members were being notified, the Desert Sun on Monday identified the Marine as Cpl. Allen DeVillena, 22, of San Jose.
DeVillena was fatally shot as two officers on bicycles were conducting a routine patrol near several bars at around 2 a.m. early Saturday morning, police said.
After witnessing a fight break out in the parking structure at 275 S. Indian Canyon Drive, officers were conversing with the driver of a black Chrysler 300 when another scuffle erupted between its driver and the officers, Palm Spring police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said in a statement.
“An altercation ensued between the officers and the male suspect driving the vehicle in the parking structure,” according to Kovaleff. “An officer-involved shooting involving both officers occurred and the male suspect driving the vehicle was shot.”
DeVillena was reportedly with the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton, according to a public affairs officer.
Allen DeVillena, the victim’s father, told the Desert Sun that his son went out on the town simply to celebrate the 237th anniversary of the Marine Corps, which happened to occur on Veterans Day weekend.
Evidently the Marine was one tough guy if two Officers had to shoot him because he was toomuch for them.
Well they were bicycle Officers, how tough can a bicycle officer be? The batteries on their Tasers were pobably dead.
Police must be getting bored with shooting dogs.
So some Marines, our warriors were celebrating and some cops on bicycles were arguing with them and one Marine was shot to death........what is wrong with this picture.
Cops on bikes are like.....oh never mind.
Here’s hoping a few Marines look these cops up and pay them a personal visit from about 450 yards or so.
So an unarmed drunk Marine had to be shot by two cops...f’n p***ies.

According to the police, stolen items were found on the deceased. It’s also said that he attempted to hit one of the cops. Still, if this had been some civilian out on the town, they’d be looking at Hispanic riots:

So cops have gone from killing the family dog to Marines?

AH ha... I posted too fast. This changes the picture completely. Definitely attempted murder. However......couldn’t the officer blow out two tires in a heartbeat?
Cops in PS are known to be gay and riding bikes at 2am in the morning isn’t quite straight. The parking garage is one of the few public parking areas within walking distance of some restaurants and bars in the area.
Wasn’t it a Camp Pendleton sergeant who just last year was shot and killed early one morning while he was driving his daughters to school? Shot in his vehicle with his daughters in the back seat?
I am curious. What is the "happened" part here?
Since Commandant Lejeune's Order 47, the United States Marine Corps has honored The Birthday on November 10 of each year, on whatever day of the week it falls, AFIK.
Furthermore, the United States Department Of Veterans Affairs has stated in its History of Veterans Day that:
"... on September 20th, 1975, President Gerald R. Ford signed Public Law 94-97 (89 Stat. 479), which returned the annual observance of Veterans Day to its original date of November 11, beginning in 1978.
Veterans Day continues to be observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week on which it falls."
Though Federal employees may be given another day off on the following workday when Veterans Day falls on a weekend, still it is observed on November 11 of every year.
These are two successive days, and always occur on November 10 and 11.
There does not seem to be any "happen" about this ---
Just a picky note.
What need was there for using deadly force on a young Marine to end his celebration of this date? It will be interesting to hear more on this. Somebody exercised very poor judgment on this event.
They were going for a predawn run, at the track, at San Clemente H.S. They were in the habit of doing so, while reading Scripture, as the sun rose. The first story that came out was that The Deputy feared for the daughters’ safety, so he fired upon The Marine. I don’t recall what the second version of events was.
Um, an Alaska State Trooper?
