The Campaign Made No Difference
Dick Morris ^ | November 10, 2012 | Dick Morris

The debates, the conventions, the storm coverage, Benghazi, the state of the economy, jobs data and all other events that affected all fifty states mattered. But the paid media, the in-person campaigning in swing states, and the massive ground game deployed by both sides accomplished nothing. Obama lost all the votes he was going to lose anyway in the swing states and Romney gained of the votes he was going to gain anyway in the swing states.

I have heard that he was “only out for the rich”

That's been the knee-jerk popular characterization of the Republican Party since the early 20th century. I used to hear it from my FDR-loving grandparents. Nothing has changed, and it's not likely to. The Republican brand is forever tarnished in this respect - and frankly the fact that so many RINOs wear this characterization so well doesn't help.

IMHO it's time for conservatives to leave the country club Republicans behind. Let them have their party. Now that leftist regimes would seem to have a lock on power for the foreseeable future, it's time to build or back a viable third party under a new brand - looking a few elections out at possibly turning things around.

Living election to election with the latest socialist-lite RINO wasn't ever going to turn anything around. It just slows the decline is all. So, time to build a real answer for the long term, which takes time, while our new leftist masters accelerate the decline. Maybe there will be an opportunity to pull the fat out of the fire when everything crashes. One thing's for sure - a RINO-run party of elites isn't going to do it.

jjotto: "Just don’t expect conservatives to support the socialist lite Republicans.
Romney 2012 may be the high point fro Republicans!"

Republican high points were:

It's also worth noting that in 160 years -- 40 presidential elections, 20 victories -- only Ronald Reagan has defeated an incumbent Democrat running for reelection.
So on historical grounds alone, Romney was up against stiff odds.

But I would certainly agree with you that we need more conservative candidates, which Romney obviously was not -- he is an "I was bi-partisan with a majority Democrat Massachusetts legislature" kind of guy.

So where the heck were the conservatives?
Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich?
These guys were conservative? Not!

So maybe next time we'll have better choices, but the primaries, not the general election, are where to make those choices.

An Ann Coulter sycophant is aka a Mitt Romney and Chris Christie fanny smoocher.

You know, the two who gave us Obama 2.

I’m firmly of the opinion that pandering to the Hispanic vote is poison. They don’t vote reliably GOP in high enough #s to justify such an amnesty venture at all.

You are correct. However there is a solution to this.

Its called outreach and a return to the Ward Politics of the 1920s.

There are Hispanic small business owners across the country who are fed up with red tape, regulations, and bullcrap.

Why not simply enlist them? They know those communities. We don't. You build a small Patron Machine low-level which simply makes sure the potholes are filled and the streetlights are turned on.

That then moves up-ballot.

The problem is the GOP leadership wants a top-down approach. In a diverse society (think Great Immigration Wave of the 1920s) you need a bottom-up approach until people settle in and get assimilated.

I fail to understand why nobody is bothering to open their history books and understand this. IT WORKS!

Pandering is not needed. Absorbing and assimilating and adapting to IS needed.

I just think Spanish campaign ads and a candidate who can speak some Spanish at campaign appearances is the maximum extent that this pandering should take.

If you go there with Hispanics you will lose.

Think about Latin culture and the Patron system. The personal touch wins out over any mass-media approach.

Amnesty is not required. Helping kids with their homework, keeping the parks safe, and making sure the streetlights are on will go a lot farther with these folks.

Is there a way of finding out how many Republicans in REALITY voted in a particular precinct. I believe that Republicans came out in vast numbers ala Chic-Fil-A and in some precincts these votes were thrown out. Something doesn’t add up. Everyone here on FR were reporting gigantic lines in conservative districts and yet our conservative votes were off by 3 million? Doesn’t make sense.

I don’t know.

Maybe you need to get in touch with the people who run the Obama Vote fraud site, and their people on Twitter and FaceBook and see what we can do to help

The only reason Romney appeared to have momentum is because they had their likely voter model wrong. It failed to pick up the likely voters that put Obama over the top.

You seriously thing we got O because of those two
and not because the demographics were for the One?

Reagan would have been defeated against O today.
Our beliefs have no mindshare among the urban young
(at least here in Realville).

This idea that some magic conservative could have won against
O in today’s political climate is a myth. Sorry to be a bringer of bad news. It may take a generation before we
elect a conservative Pres again. People today just like too much free stuff and don’t like pain or toil.
