I think we should acknowledge the ones “we” have already made dependent. I agree with the policy you state, but only for future applicants. need to announce the new program and then hold everyone who has a kid thereafter accountable.
You and I both know that the value of individual accountability and responsibility is now a minority belief in the US.
Right, so they will never agree with my suggestions, whether we grandfather them in or not. At least, not until we see a greater societal collapse that forces them to really reevaluate things. Personally, I doubt even that would make enough people support marriage again. It may be one of those things that, once you lose it, it is gone forever.
So, since I see things from that perspective, I have no reason to compromise and say we should grandfather anything in. Neither proposal is ever going to happen, so as long as we are just talking fantasy scenarios, I’ll stick with the fantasy that is most consistent with my values.
