Any word on improving the site's speed during high volume?
I’m sure it could be done that way but my guess is Jim prefers it be voluntary.
Disabling archives?
Disabling search?
Disabling graphics?
Disabling all but 10 threads?
Disabling all but and election thread?
Radical, but I remember early Drudge days when he was the only site up during Iraq war start, while others crashed, because he was trimmed to text only. I dunno, just suggestions. I miss you guys during a big event!!! Sniff-sniff!
I took my old butt and slummed over ther during the last debate but couldn’t see/read anything. It was ‘shut off’ to non members. I too would love to watch their little brains melt down, maybe I can get in Tues. night. Just have to wait and see I guess.

You bet it is, Scoot! Now kick in a couple of Benjamins and you'll be faster than the French in retreat!
The last few debates, I went to Hot Air site - am not real computer savvy -
Kinda fun because they get some real stupid trolls on there....
But my heart belongs to FR so hope it works OK.
I’m not too sure about that...
2004 is when I fell in love with FR because to took Fox until 1 AM to call OH when knowledgable FRs called it by 9 if I remember correctly.
And Fox did it reluctantly...for Bush.
Oh my, Waterfox 16.0 IS MY FRIEND. Thank you very much for this info. I had never heard of it. It's much faster than the Firefox I was running.
” ...heads ‘splode’ “ Love it! Roflmao!
I would not recommend this to anyone until they get the bugs worked out of it or until Firefox itself goes 64-bit. It reminded me of when 64-bit started coming of age; too many things would not work.
A lot of us have changed our settings to show 20 results a page and things like that. It’ll help save resources, they say, and speed the site up
That won't make any difference as the images that people post are not hosted on the FR servers.
I would urge all posters to not use the post preview feature, but click the "I have already previewed..." check box when posting. That WILL make a difference.
But Waterfox, while I like the concept, is not completely compatible with many plugins like the ones I mentioned in my earlier post. Their website says that the only 64-bit plugins available are Silverlight, Java and Flash Player, and even Flash Player is a bit buggy.
I wouldn't recommend anyone use Waterfox until they get the bugs worked out, or until Firefox itself goes 64-bit with COMPLETE compatibility for the many plugins people use.
Until then, I'll stick with FF9 until a good 64-bit browser comes available.
“””””Interesting what $85K per quarter buys you...”””””””
isn’t it?.....been here for a long time and this problem has been obvious for years and years....any suggestions just get stomped on.....
x $1.00 a day donor......
“”””Im sure it could be done that way but my guess is Jim prefers it be voluntary.”””””
how’s that working out????
i’d rather my crops be watered by rain fall.....but...if it doesn’t rain i may need to invoke other options.....
OR WATCH MY CROPS DIE!!!!
the “my way or the highway” business plan may need to be rethought....
It’s working out fine for me. Your mileage may vary.
I have noticed that all the sidebars load if you are NOT signed in. Lurkers without accounts may be a big part of the problem. Maybe sidebars should be disabled for anyone NOT logged in.
this is the 1st I’ve been able to get in today in 2 hours
and I ain’t the quiet type
I have never heard of Waterfox, but downloading it now.
Free Republic on Facebook worked just fine.
