Full Title: SHOCK: 72 Hours After Grid-Down: Starvation, Supply Shortages, Food Lines, No Clean Water, No Gas, Transportation Standstill *Independent Reports, Pics, Video*
A recent study noted that the majority of people have enough food in their pantries to feed their household for about three days and that seemingly stable societies are really just nine meals from anarchy. With most of us dependent on just-in-time transportation systems to always be available, few ever consider the worst case scenario.
For tens of thousands of east coast residents that worst case scenario is now playing out in real-time. No longer are images of starving people waiting for government handouts restricted to just the third-world.
In the midst of crisis, once civilized societies will very rapidly descend into chaos when essential infrastructure systems collapse.
Though the National Guard was deployed before the storm even hit, there is simply no way for the government to coordinate a response requiring millions of servings of food, water and medical supplies
Many east coast residents who failed to evacuate or prepare reserve supplies ahead of the storm are being forced to fend for themselves.
Frustration and anger have taken hold, as residents have no means of acquiring food or gas and thousands of trucks across the region remain stuck in limbo.

I know. Its just crazy.
I think I am going to buy some gas—because you know they will take it from media market 125 and send it to media market #1.
Look closely at at the pictures on this thread's link. Those are happy celebratory faces. Hardly something you'd see from desperate starving people. FOX news just made the comment if all this dumpster diving is really the case once the cameras are gone.
Oil Trims Weekly Advance as U.S. Refineries Remain Shut

Prices fell earlier as Phillips 66 and Hess Corps New Jersey refineries remained shut four days after Hurricane Sandy struck the East coast.

Oil Falls on Speculation Sandy Shutdowns Will Bolster
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-11-02/oil-falls-on-speculation-sandy-shutdowns-will-bolster.html
The resumption of operations at the Phillips 66 and Hess refineries, which have a combined capacity of 308,000 barrels a day, are contingent on post-storm assessments, according to the companies. Both were closed before Sandy hit and lost power after the storm made landfall Oct. 29 in southern New Jersey. Phillips reported flooding in low-lying areas at Linden and said Oct. 31 the refinery regained power.

RPT-In hip Brooklyn, a fuel terminal padlocked as drivers steam
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/02/storm-sandy-motiva-brooklyn-idUSL1E8M21RF20121102
* Without power, Motiva terminal can’t service gas stations
* Meantime, gasoline-starved New York drivers get angrier
* The region’s biggest refinery, IMTT in Bayonne, NJ, isn’t operating
By Edward McAllister
NEW YORK, Nov 1 (Reuters) - As drivers in Sandy-battered New York sit steaming in long lines to buy gasoline, a small fuel terminal on a remote road in a trendy Brooklyn neighborhood lies idle, gates padlocked - mute testimony to the root of the energy crisis now gripping the city.
Motiva’s plant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, like so many fuel-receiving stations that dot the shores of New Jersey and the boroughs of New York City, has been closed since the superstorm struck, unable to receive or deliver fuel that could ease the growing squeeze on gasoline supplies.
Restoring operations to terminals in the New York-New Jersey region, which hold about 75 million barrels of oil storage capacity, will be vital to normalizing fuel supplies to the nation’s largest city. These outlets provide a crucial link in the city’s gasoline supply chain, storing fuel brought in by barges before it is trucked to gas stations.
At the Motiva station - without power and with its offices flooded - t he few workers on duty on Thursday were left scratching their heads about when it might be possible to receive fuel and ship it to desperate customers.
“We will not know how bad it is until the power is back on, and we don’t know when that will be,” said one worker, who asked not to be named.
If the state authorities had any sense, vital infrastructure would be very early on in the repair efforts.
I am a strong believer having once been in a situation without adequate water. I now have a 33,000 gallon chlorinated cistern and two 6 element Berkeys.
OK, tell me how someone is/was supposed to expect this or prep for this.

I have as little sympathy as the next guy for blatant Darwin Award level stupidity, but this is an entirely different matter.
You’re an asshole.
As are all the others who have expressed that same opinion, and I am ashamed to see that there are as many o FR as have showed their true colors as there are.
It’s a black mark on the face of FR for the lurking/visiting world to see.
Matthew 5:43-48 43 You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers,[i] what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Maybe they’ll learn and WON’T vote dem.
They are raised up to be government dependents, so it is not surprising that such drones continue to vote like drones.
Reading your posts has convinced me that mr. mm and I need a non-gas generator. I mentioned it to him today and he said that he’s not impressed with the condition ours is in and will be looking into a natural gas/propane generator, and maybe one that could be converted.
Glad to know that you finally got some supplies.
We are praying for you all in the storm affected areas.
Basic Boy Scout preparedness.
I recently wrote this article on Survival Podcast (consider the rest in quotes):
Somewhere in these articles, there is information about a WaterBob. Im bringing this back up due to Christmas approaching.
A WaterBob is 100 gallons of good water in a smallish box. I have such a box stored in a bathroom. If a weather event (or anything) is about to happen that would threaten having good water or cause a loss of water, I will open the box and put the food grade plastic container in a tub and attach it to the tub faucet. One hundred gallons of water flows into the container. I close the valve and its ready to use for drinking or cooking, anywhere I need good water. There is an enclosed pump to hook to take water out as you need it.
If you just fill your bathtub without using a WaterBob, that is not good water for drinking or cooking. That water has residuals of soap scum, cleaner, sloughed off dead body tissue, dirt and perhaps bacteria. It could be used to fill a potty for flushing but thats about it. You need as much clean/potable water as you can get, not contaminated water.
The cheapest place to buy a WaterBob is at:
http://www.hurricaneprepper.com/waterbob.html for $19.97
For that almost $20, you have 100 gallons of good water. That is such a good bargain 100 gallons of water in a smallish box.
About a month ago, my sister-in-law was here and saw the box in the bathroom. She and husband dont store water or food and think nothing is going to happen and they live on the coast where hurricanes can come.
She asked about the box, what it was, and I told her its 100 gallons of good water. Her husband, the smart engineer, was listening. The sister-in-law said she wanted one of those boxes so she could have good water if they needed it. I said, How about I give one of these to your husband for Christmas? Hes getting the box for Christmas, along with other survival items I will give them. I have ordered and received the WaterBob. I feel better they will at least have good water.
If you dont have a WaterBob, please get one (do it for me so I wont worry about you, OK? ) Then, think of your friends and family you give presents to, and give them a WaterBob a gift of life.
I grew up north jersey where power outages lasted week with -16 temps.
Jersey shore high 40’ , like spring here. No tv and crappy 3G . Otherwise I’m good. At least I can watch Netflix with my unlimited cell plan now. Living the good life :)
Adder ~ Kinda hard to buy gas when the purchase of it is restricted and regulated by some law.
You are under no obligation to live in an area where such restrictions exist.
Just saying.
New Yorkers are hard. And brittle.
If the state authorities had any sense, they would leave the companies alone and not try to "help" the refineries. They should ease EPA type restrictions until stocks are replenished. But other than that, those companies would be best off with Government staying out of the way. Dollars are motivation enough.
We need to deploy a minimum of 10,000 government inspectors backed by a similar number number of government lawyers to make sure prices are rolled back to a baseline level, as established by a new, comprehensive federal regulation that will developed over the weekend and published Monday, setting maximum allowable prices, profit levels, hours of operations, Davis Bacon and Buy American standards for all products going into the affected regions, and delivery preferences for majority minority and socially disadvantaged areas.
We would not want to impede ongoing relief efforts, but all businesses should be on notice that the new regulations will be retroactive to the week before the storm. All records must be kept and submitted to the Emergency Relief Price Board, and all businesses must be prepared justify their decisions or face treble damanges.
Only then can we be confident that the recovery will be fair.
Hear hear! The template is here:

The union goons are preventing them from working.
I was stunned by what I saw aired last night.
It sounds like people in direct fire of the waves and flooding did not leave.
There was talk of houses filled with sand & they think bodies are buried in there.
I’m trying to put myself in the shoes of those who came back to nothing....even if they managed to get supplies loaded into their vehicle before evacuation - that limits them to one full gas tank. Maybe some containers with gas, and some food. The clothes and blankets they fit in their vehicle - IF they still have a vehicle.
I imagine my plan would be to find a way to get as far away as possible as quickly as I could.
Tough thing for many of those people to pull off.
When a hurricane comes through Texas, there is no gas for a number of days and when there is no gas, food trucks won’t come until there is gas so they can refuel.
We know this, so we have enough provisions at home to get through this period. No one goes to work because work places are also shut down. The area is dead until power comes back - when it comes back, gas trucks come to service stations, gas can be pumped, then food trucks come back.
We know when power fails, everything fails.
