In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
bathetic \buh-THET-ik\, adjective
Displaying or characterized by insincere emotions: the bathetic emotionalism of soap operas.
Example sentences:
The bathetic quality of "instant cliche" endings is to some extent counterbalanced by the kind of ending which combines plot-contortion with climactic enlightenment
-- Heterocosms, Heterocosms
Attempts to capture the awe and pain of dying can often, alas, come out sounding either bathetic or satiric.
-- Nancy Kress, Characters, Emotion and Viewpoint
Etymology:
Based on the more common word pathetic, bathetic entered English in the 1830s. It comes from the Greek word bathos which meant "depth."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Christie’s bathetic pandering to the “Lyin King” was pathetic. Even the democrat governors of neighboring states did not succumb to the temptation.

It seems the pathetic Sen Bob Menendez, D-NJ, champion of women's rights and equal pay, has proven a bathetic candidate since now 2 women in the Dominican Republic have come forth to exclaim that not only did he pay them (separately) for sex, but that he underpaid them. He promised $500 each, but only gave them $100 for their efforts.
Senator! Underpaying minority women to do a job that American women wouldn't do. Tsk tsk tsk!!
