While there are several tags which have openings but no closings (<p>, <li>), the </sarc> is interesting because it is the only html tag which has a closing but no opening. It requires potentially infinite look-ahead in order to parse properly. Some FReepers never quite seem to see it at all.

Remember the real old days when someone wouldn’t close a tag, and there would be pages of size 80 font flashing red text? When that happened in a MiaT thread, it would take hours to open on dialup.
