I am having a hard time with the FR site. It has been this way for a couple days.
It's slow, herky jerky and I get a lot of 'document not found' and 'error'.
What's going on? I can't do without FR during the election!
I’ve had trouble too. And yes, I’ve donated.
I’ve been keeping up with articles and links by following several folks on Twitter. Pretty much same articles and polls that get posted here . . . when I can’t get on FR.
It separates the sunshine posters and lolligaggin ol coots from the yodelers and oarsmen amongst us..
"These are the time-outs that try men's souls."
;-)
election years and results here are a b*tch for some and then some just like to b*tch. ;-] (ducks)
ya can only pump so much poop thru a sewer line and then something has to give.. ask San FRan (from an ol’ sump man)
You also wont read many libertarians on this forum admit that they are all fro the libertarian platform. The last time I checked out what they wanted it made me understand that they have more in common with Liberals then they do with Conservatives.
Their site says they are for: Gay Marriage, Open Borders, Abortion on Demand, legalized Drugs (not just pot), the 2nd Amendment (I’m with them on this one), and numerous other items that I can’t remember. These are the ones that stuck with me. Sorry Libertarians, I just can’t go along with most of those things. I’m very pro-gun rights. But I’ve even read on here that many Libertarians are all for restoring voting rights and gun ownership rights to felons.
I believe that once you prove you are harmful to society then you lose your rights to decide who leads society and you lose your ability to access weapons that can be used to harm others.
I’m sure I’ll get flamed by the Libertarian/Gary Johnson/Ron Paul crowed here for not being for Freedom. They love to try to show that they are the most conservative of us all.
Look what you got in return for your comments; A DOUBLE POST!! That rare, coveted DOUBLE POST that’s not identical! Look at the bright side, at least you know it’s not your computer’s fault!
LOL! (I’m so dedicated I endured 20 seconds of hang-time just to post a ‘LOL!’)
“”””””uh oh... you better get ready... all the folks are gonna ask you how much you give to the FR-eep- a-thons.””””””
and EXACTLY why I quit being a dollar a day donor....
until there is some accountability I am a freeloader......
where does the money go?????....not to new servers that’s for sure....is it just me or do they tend to act up at the beginning of every Freep-a-thon.....wait.....what beginning.....they are now virtually 7/365
Sorry but it's been this way for a number of years. (13 to be exact...since I first joined)
But don't worry, the current FReepathon should generate the necessary funds to FINALLY get the servers this site needs.....
/////Jim has already stated that outside IT expertise has been refused, offered gratis or not. There are at least 20 of us here (active FReepers) who are/were high-level sysadmins. ///////
real transparency.....wonder why no outside help is allowed.....hmmmmm
If Obama hid things like that Freepers would........
I hear FR has the highest number of waltzers per capita.. ya heard of the minute waltz, you’d be surprised how many steps ya can get in in 20 seconds. ;-)
a musical interlude while your browser loads FR ..
Friedman: Chopin “Minute Waltz” (1924)

Jim Thompson is no Captain Bligh .. lol
Trust me , Folks, for your value FR is leaps ahead of the news cycle machines out here, this is as raw as it gets and ya don’t have to go outside and get a hard copy in the rain.
I can understand the frustrations and questioning by many , FR is an addictive place, its that darn ebb and flow thing, almost predictable in years and times like this.
There is no starting from scratch with the database, the machinery, it’s a slow painful process to grow and stay prepared for attacks , design , traffic ..
The sad reality is money talks,, anyone doing what they do already and keep it up as much as they do on the dollars available is to be commended, not hounded imho.. or they are not tech savvy when ya start building a couple racks worth of servers support a nation of folks at FRee Republic.
Challenge to anyone.. Go out and start a site with all the bells and whistles that make FR click on $250K and a similar infrastructure to connect thru.. now keep it running grow it and keep the bow out of the water as long as ya can..
Is there a next Gen FR out there or on the drawing board.. not that I know.. but I’m patient enough to let some of the big dog servers go online.. sooner rather than later .. but Hey.. ya never know.. ‘Til then the drinking lamp is lit. Please smoke on the deck, wifey will be home soon. :-)
I am having problems with all the sites I click on. Having dial up its to be expected for me. American Thinker is also slow along with a couple of other conservative sites I go to...Not just FR....
Here’s a simplistic solution to your problem: when you click on a FreeRepublic article, it goes to the very top of your computer screen and stays there as long as you are on the site. You can see them. If you read a lot of articles in one sitting, they will accumulate there, because they’re still running in the background. And they will slow down your computer. Point your mouse at the articles at the top of your screen one at a time, right-click, and click “close tab” (it’s at the bottom of the column). Do this for every article that you have already read. This will speed up your computer.
I’m not trying to take y’all back to the third grade with my post. But there are computer users out there who don’t know this stuff.
I guess I have known that all along.
A notice to keep an eye on this over the course of the day. Looks like someone turned the Internet Rheostat down. North American response time over 360ms and Packet loss at 32%. These numbers have been 50% higher than the daily norm since approx 06:50Z. Looks similar to the event on the 22nd. Unable to track down the event on the 11th that seemed to permanently raise the packet loss norm two % points.
