Vanity: We must win the senate (personal plea)
Kolath | 10/24/2012 | Kolath

Posted on 10/23/2012 10:37:00 PM PDT by Kolath

What needs to be hammered is the SENATE! We need to take it back!!!

If Romney wins, the GOP holds the House but we fail to retake the Senate, it will be a hollow victory.

I know everyone is focusing on the POTUS election but the Senate is extremely critical.

If we fail to retake the Senate:

1. Obamacare will be impossible to reconcile or remove 2. You can forget about a national budget (continuing resolutions galore or "compromises") 3. Reid will continue to block House bills 4. Getting judicial nominees will be hard to impossible. 5. Controlling big gov't will become that much more difficult.

If you say, "Don't worry, we'll get the Senate back in 2014," then you're foolishly rolling the dice. Meanwhile, the entitlement state (Obamacare especially) will only grow and become entrenched. If you say, "Don't worry, Romney will have coat tails and drag our Senate candidates across the finish line," then you're doubling down on your foolish dice throw. (note: the "coat tails" argument I gave in another thread has changed after personal thought).

Therefore, WE MUST double our efforts to win back the Senate. Much like our objections to Romney, we must see the bigger picture.

Don't like Akin? He wasn't your guy? Don't like his "Homer Simpson" moment? You face palm Mourdock's comment (which is being over-hyped by some)? You get depressed because the Democrats are throwing the kitchen sink against this GOP candidate or that? Well welcome to politics my fiends. It's a bloodsport folks.

If this goes down badly, and we fail to get the Senate back, I will personally go to those in my community who got squishy this November and say, "Well, was it worth it? Obamacare has wrecked the health industry, your doctor left, your company dropped you off their insurance rolls, your premiums are skyrocketing, you can only get part-time work with no benefits, you can't afford you State exchange plan, your "fine" for not having insurance is going up, and Grandpa can't get his hip replacement....but look on the bright side, at least you have your "PRIDE" and "PRINCIPLES"!!!

This is PERSONAL to me. My mom is having open heart surgery next week and my dad has prostate cancer. I myself was recently diagnosed with MGUS (a potential precursor to Multiple Myeloma). Years from now, in my elderly years (when MGUS has a higher chance of turning into Myeloma) if I get bone cancer, the new treatments which could cure it or put it into remission will most likely be off limits to me. It WILL be a death sentence!

So please, I BEG OF YOU, keep your eyes the big picture.

I'm asking some of you to put aside any bitter feelings or concerns. We must remain vigilant. After the election, we must continue to replace the entrenched powers with conservatives and stay engaged with our communities.

From what I hear the GOP is not even giving money to Bachmann's campaign. As far as I know they are still not behind Akin's campaign.

If we do not win the Senate, it will be a message that we need to prepare to run independent and third party conservative candidates.

As far as I can see, at this point Akin is merely running as a Republican to help the GOP and Michelle Bachmann too. They're gaining nothing from the party but if they win the party gains that seat. If Akin and Bachmann win they should pull a John McCain and his group of 7 or whatever it was called and spend their entire term threatening to change from Republican to Independent or join the Constitution Party if things do not go as they want.

0bamacare was not passed with 60 votes. Part of PPACA was passed with 60 Senate votes, but the House would not approve that version. The Final PPACA was passed by inserting Amendments agreeable to the House during the process of budget reconciliation, bypassing the regular order of the Senate.

Therefore, all that is necessary for the repeal of PPACA is 50 votes + Vice President Ryan. In a budget reconciliation, we insert an Amendment which says, the "PPACA of 2010 is hereby repealed."

And that's it.

We have 2 years to improve economy. Stop trillion $ deficit, stop 0care, start drilling for energy here, build pipeline, eliminate rules concocted last 4 years, stop supporting worthless green energy, stop propping up housing values and let market stabilize, and the economy will be a long way toward recovery.

Reagan was able to turn the Carter mess around so it can be done.

2014 Take over Senate, repeal 0care.

That will NEVER happen for the reasons GeronL has given and other reasons.

I am not sure the GOP has it in them to undo all this crap. They had chances before and didn’t.

There was no ObamaCare to keep Reagan's economy from booming.

I think if Akin wins, he should immediately move to being an independent.

Chill, for 3 reasons.

1. We would be filibustered as long as we have fewer than 60 votes. Juan McCain will see to that the nuclear option won’t exist.

2. Obama has shown Romney that the President’s will can be rammed through executive orders and selective enforcement. One good thing about Romney is that if he wants something done, he has no hesitation to use the tools in his shed.

3. To my understanding, the Senate still has to approve the spending. It’s not like the Democrat financing agenda is the default. So no matter what, whatever we get our taxpayer money spent on is still going to be held to whichever party has the most willpower in a non-supermajority Senate.

By rights he should. But I don't think I'd want to see that happen if it means Harry Reid becomes the majority leader. But I would like to see him spending his whole term threatening them to do it (that may be enough).

There is no 0care yet. It can be stopped and Romney said he would do it.
To framework is in place but still must be implemented by HHS Secretary.

I think Akin will win.

If I were in MO, I would lie to everyone and say I’d reluctantly vote for Macskill or not vote, but then vote Akin at the voting booth. With Romney winning MO by double digits, I doubt I’m the only one

Winning the Senate is indeed very important.

But having Romney put one or two new conservatives on the Supreme Court is the way to get rid of ZeroCare.

If the Senate remains in Dem hands after the election it is probable that Reid will block all nominations to the court. But, if there are vacancies on the court then the math changes and we might be able to kill ZeroCare with the same votes against it we had last time around. If a couple of Dem justices are gone then we could squeak by even in the face of Justice Robert's idiocy.

The best argument to take to the court is the fact that if the ZeroCare penalties are a tax then the bill originated in the wrong chamber.

What a disappointment this weak fool turned out to be :-(

I wish Charlie Summers (R) would pick up steam in Maine. If he loses we lose that Senate seat, the good thing is an independent will pick it up and not a democrat. The bad thing is, the independent will vote with the democrats.

“There are always enough RINO’s to give the Dems a majority on certain votes”

While that is currently true, should we take back the Senate, there will be more TEA Party types on the R side. We’re culling the herd, so to speak. ;o)

That being said, if Romney wins, he will have coattails.

Don’t discount Akin and Mourdock just yet.

One more thing, should we not retake the Senate, but win the White House, there will be dems in red states who will be put on notice. I have a feeling some will cooperate if, for no other reason, than to keep their jobs in their next election.

Totally agree. Do what you can folks to make it a 51 Republican senate majority when the smoke clears. We could get up to 53, so back your local guy/gal and others if you can.

Real Clear Politics Senate Map, current Projections, Battle for the Senate.

We need 50 at least with Ryan the tie-breaker. 51 would be fantastic, and anything higher would be a landslide. Let's make it happen folks!

Amen to that. Obamacare will destroy free market capitalism in America. Isn't that what Obama wants? Fight for your Senator folks. No Republicahn Senate, no Repeal of Obamacare! As important as the WH!
