This is the first year I've been canvassing a precinct and I must say it's been an adventure. I'm getting to know my neighborhood, my neighbors and the vibe of the voting public.
As the old saying goes, you meet some of the most "interesting" people.
Reactions range from smiles, enthusiasm, blank poker faces, war stories from vets, "huh?" to a the rare "get off my property whippersnapper!!!"
I'm canvassing for Deb Fischer (NE, US Senate) and it's been a blast. 95% positive with lots of good reactions.
What are your canvassing stories?
never got bit by a dog and never broke an ankle.
People are furious at Obama, I have never seen anything like this, and I've been knocking on doors for a few years.
I always have a good time knocking on doors in my precinct, it is heavily Republican, with a sprinkling of Dems, Incependants, and a couple of Libertarians. The worst response I have ever gotten was a no.
I usually campaign for a down ticket candidate, like you are, If you convince someone to vote for Deb Fischer, there is a good chance they will vote for Romney, and other Republicans.
Good luck defeating the Carpet Bagger.
Generally positive responses here in this 50/50 area north of Ann Arbor City. The local politics is nasty here, but Ouimet and Romney (not Obama) are viewed more positively.
