We are moving to North Carolina next year from New Jersey. New Jersey has some real draconian gun laws, so I hesitated while here to buy anything aside from the .38 special I have in the house for protection. I didn't even bring my hunting guns from Michigan because of the same laws. My understanding is that North Carolina has gun laws much easier to deal with, so when we move, I'd like to bring my guns from Michigan for hunting, as well as equip our home for home defense.
I travel quite a bit for work, and I'd like to have available weapons for my wife to access if the necessity every arose. My intention is to have her fully trained on the use of these weapons, including techniques necessary for her safety and protection.
What guns would you recommend for a 105 pound woman to have available? Also, we have a 7-year-old in the house. What safe-keeping devices would you recommend to keep the guns in that would provide instant access for her should she ever need to use them?
The RUGER LCR with CT laser grips is a good choice. I never thought a 13 oz 38 snubby could be enjoyable to shoot. With it’s linear trigger pull and gel grips anyone can get 2 inch groups at 10 yds. The wife can shoot standard 38 SPL loads all day and not complain. If you decide to go concealed carry you won’t need a second gun. I would store them loaded in a “Gun-Vault” electronic safe. Having an unloaded gun is like screwing with a condom in your wallet.
I also recommended the Ruger LCR above. But, momma should CC it on her persona all day. It won’t do her much good in a gun safe. And, when I read other persons’ posts that the sound of racking a cartridge into a chamber is a good thing, I shudder. A defensive weapon had better be in shooting condition at all times and not need two hands to activate it. Hence the recommendation of a double action revolver.
My “Plan B” is a secondary weapon. No “safe rooms” - that concept is DEFENSIVE - if somebody breaks in MY home, I become the agressor. The lock on my door is there to protect anybody stupid enough to break in - not to protect me.
Almost forgot - hollow point bullets are illegal in fatass Christie’s New Jersey. Some conservative HE is .... Of course, any IDIOT with a tin badge can carry them, though....
