Norton does all these security checks on it, and well, it’s not a 2012 model.

Norton is known to be a resource hog.
Have you done a defragmentation on your hard drive ?
When was the last time you done a clean install of the operating system ?
Yes, it could also be a indication of spyware taking up resources.... or a hard drive that needs to be defragged.
