DALLAS – A Southeast Oak Cliff resident shot and killed a burglary suspect who kicked in her door alongside an accomplice Wednesday afternoon. One suspect was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second escaped. Police cleared the area in front of the home at 7230 Concordia Lane, saying the suspect’s car had to be towed away. The vehicle had paper plates.

Tweets sent from the official Dallas Police Department Twitter account said two suspects kicked in the door of the home at about 11:30 a.m. The resident was alone upstairs and heard the noise. She confronted the two burglars as they ascended the stairs and shot at them several times. The two ran out the front door and one collapsed from a gunshot wound. Police later recovered a gun at the scene, "indicating at least one of the suspects was armed." Nobody has been identified. A witness at the scene said she’s a friend of the resident, a 21-year-old who lived with her parents. The witness said the woman called her and told her she shot a home invader. Police investigators were questioning the friend in a squad car at the scene.

The Dallas Police Department helicopter is in the air and has called a K-9 unit to help. The home sits at the end of a cul-de-sac and abuts a heavily wooded area. The helicopter was flying over that area. Police officers holding AR-15 assault rifles pepper the crime scene. Police reports show the home has been targeted before. On Jan. 2, 2008, a suspect got in the homeowner's car as it was running in the driveway and sped away. And on Dec. 2, 2008, someone broke into the house, damaging the alarm system control panel along with the bedroom, garage, and rear doors.

They stole a CD player, diamond rings, necklaces and a digital camera. The woman's father, Charles Brown, said he taught his daughter to shoot a gun in the wake of these crimes.

"Intruders came in and kicked our door and I was glad I taught her if the alarm went off, it was a problem," Brown said near the crime scene. "She got one of them. I hate she didn't get both of them." "I don't want her to be stressing about what she did to some thug that had a tendency to vandalize people and take something they didn't work hard for," Brown said.
