"There's still no sign of Andrea (Laurie Holden), who got separated from the group at the end of season two.
When the group discovers an abandoned prison, they think they've found a place where they can hunker down and breath easier - at least for a few days.
The prison is crawling with walkers, forcing them to go on a ruthless killing mission to secure the perimeter. And you know what that means - a series of zombie kills fashioned with the kind of special effects George A. Romero could only dream of back in 1968.
The monotonous killings may please gore hounds, but you'll soon long for the big picture questions that separate "Dead" from most other zombie offerings. The season still holds plenty of potential even with the show dumping some red meat out for the base. Rick's wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) is very pregnant, and she wonders if the baby will be born "walking," if you catch her drift. Rick is in full command of the survivors, but he's also learned he must kill fellow humans to protect his own.
And what about the mysterious woman we saw at the end of season two, the warrior with those serious swords? She's back, but we haven't learned much about her yet.
"The Walking Dead" isn't afraid to sic walkers on some of the main characters to keep us guessing. It's one of many reasons why "The Walking Dead" isn't like any other show on television. Yes, those bedside vigils from last season wore out the patience of regular viewers, and some of the knotted brow dialogue can be precious. New show runner Glen Mazzara treats pulp material with dignity, making this zombie apocalypse superior to the modern undead competition - no matter the screen size."

Oh wow. They should have aired that on television, it would have made more sense. I was wondering the whole time while watching that episode how they would have been able to remain safe in the same place (safety/sanitation/food). Maybe they made that episode thinking they would air the aftermath and it didn’t make it so the viewers were left wondering why it was even presented in the first place. Thanks.
Bummer its on AMC, never saw any episode and now I’m interested Dish cancels AMC, guess I’ll have to get the first two seasons on DVD.
now that would have been more in line with real human nature in a major apocalyptic and still dangerous disaster.
zombie entitlement crowd.
handouts.... handouts... entitlements.... want your money.... i deserve it...
IT’S COMING ON!
Actually, taking a prison makes excellent sense.
Not to mention its fun to sit in the tower and thin the herd.
They must be cutting back on their budget this year - I noticed that none of the slides on the semi-auto pistols kicked back after each shot and wheels didn’t turn on any revolvers either. I guess maybe they decided to used CGI instead.
Going “hand-to-hand” against these prison zombies sounds like a really bad idea.
My son and wife got me hooked on this show last season.
A short story (free online) where zombies are protected and used for population control.

You can watch “The Walking Dead” on Amazon instant video.

They’re trying to save on ammo, but if they get a scratch from a zombie, they’re done. Too big a risk.
I'm on Dish Network and AMC is still acting too big for their britches.
The Bride and I just watched the episode.
Spoilers...
My son is a documentary film director, been making documentaries for over 25 yrs. and lives in London. If you have seen documentaries on the Discovery Channel or History Channel, you likely saw some of his films.
Got an email from him today and he’s starting a new series tomorrow. It’s a UFO SERIES! He researches two weeks, then will go to Chile for three weeks to make two films there. My grandson lives in London, of course, and last Christmas I sent him a book on Roswell and the Roswell newspaper of that day plus other stuff from Roswell. My son told him none of that has been proved.
Maybe my son will change his mind about the possibility of UFOs when he does this series. He says he will be with the experts on UFOs.
Chile has had a number of UFO sightings, the most current this past March and last month, September.
I’ll keep up with his progress and if these films are shown in the US, I’ll post it.
Not only a scratch, but one of the disappointing aspects of the show is how when they go hand-to-hand, they don’t do anything to protect themselves from blood/brain splatter. Any infected zombie DNA gets in your mouth or a cut, you’re dead. In the first few episodes it showed them wearing protective clothing and a face mask. Guess it was too much money or it hid the actors’ faces too much.
They said in the DVD interview they did not want to start season 2 by going back to season 1 & rehashing the nursing home situation cause they felt that it was important to keep the show moving forward so they cut it out & just had the group leave Atlanta. But in The Walking Dead World I guess you can say that the nursing home group is no more.
Please keep us up to date on your son’s films, Marcella. I love documentaries of all kinds....I bet I’ve seen his work.
Very dark episode tonight...the whole feeling was one of hopelessness. I hope Herschel makes it somehow, but I doubt it.
Our Directv DVR has been causing all kinds of problems lately. Tonight it froze up shortly after the show started, so we had to wait and catch the second airing.
