Madison, Wis. -- For years, vacationers and farmers across northern Wisconsin and Minnesota have heard the eerie howl of the gray wolf and fretted the creatures were lurking around their cabins and pastures. The tables are about to turn there.

Wolf hunting OKed in Wisconsin
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Now if there was only an open season on wolf wackos who re-introduced them in the first place.
But trapping the larger animals via leg hold traps is by no means a humane way to hunt any species. While grouse hunting in northern Michigan, I once came across a skunk that had died in a leg trap, it's leg horribly mangled as it had struggled to free itself. My estimate is that it had been there a couple days. I don't know if the trapper was targeting skunks or not and it doesn't really matter. What matters to me is the way that animal died and the excruciating pain it had to endure. That's something I can never condone.......
There may be trappers on this forum and I support your right to do so as well as the arguments you may offer in support of such traps. But like I said, I don't approve of them and I never will.......
And that's all I'll say about that......
'Sounds great!' 'Heck yes.' 'Count me in.' 'Just try and stop me!'

For what it is worth, HT, I agree with you. IMHO, it you are going to hunt than hunt humanely. Trapping an animal so it chews its own foot off or dies of starvation etc.. is not humane IMHO.
I'm in 100% agreement with you.
Poor doggies...
*ping*
I’ve hunted for over 50 years....I used to hunt bobcats for their hides to sell...
Now I believe in only hunting an animal that you will eat.
No exceptions for animals that would eat you, your family, your livestock or your pets? No exception for animals that take food out of your mouth (IIRC, a wolf eats the equivalent of 16 deer per year).
I beleive that we should try to be as humane as possible when hunting. If you use traps you should check them often. If you hunt with a gun or bow, you need to do your very best to track and bag any animal you shoot. Animals, even wolves, deserver humane treatment, even if they don't understand quid pro quo
