Saudi Men Take to Twitter to Complain About Bridal Dowry

Trending on the social media site, the hashtag takes a cheeky turn on wedding blues

Marital bliss is a tough cookie to crack for several Saudi men who have taken to Twitter to boycott women in general unless bridal dowry isn’t revised to make it easier on their wallets.

The Arabic hashtag, which was soon trending on the micro blogging site yesterday, roughly translates to ‘Campaign to boycott girls until bride price is reduced’.

The war of the roses took a cheeky turn within minutes, with battle lines being drawn and both sexes swearing of marriage until a lasting solution was drawn.

Perhaps the most vocal of them, Ex Saudi Girl tweeted out: “Most Saudi men complain that women’s expenses are too much for them.

“Saudi men boycotting women are hoping to pay one wife dowry and get three more wives for free.”

The average dowry in the Middle Eastern country can range between $13,000 and $18,000, depending on the family’s wealth and status. But the price is just not right for some penny-pinching men.

Ex Saudi Girl added: “Many Saudi men don’t mind paying for a car or travel but it’s always too much to pay for women’s expenses.”

Sara Wolf tweeted in response: “If that’s the mentality of our men, I’m forever single.”

Jay, another Saudi national, tweeted out to all the men: “Yeah, let’s see how long you’ll keep,” in response.

The other side of the story isn’t too flattering either in the battle of the sexes.

Mubarak Abdulrazzaq tweeted: “Kuwaitis should do the same; I’ll prefer driving Gallardo [Lamborghini] than paying those 18K for a chick.”

Abur said: “If there is room in the family for the mothers, they will find place for all the spinsters too.”

Abadi Mansouri raised the question of bridal dowry in its entirety, saying: “Normally you have to pay money for travel, the car. Why for marriage?

“Also, shouldn’t the father be paying you a dowry amount to take you out of his house?”

Consanguinity among the Saudi Arabian population. :

This study was conducted on 3212 Saudi families to investigate the prevalence of consanguineous marriages. The families were interviewed and the information on the relationship between the husband and wife was obtained. The overall rate of consanguinity shows that 57.7% of the families screened were consanguineous. The most frequent were first cousin marriages (28.4%) followed by distant relative marriages (15.2%) and second cousin marriages (14.6%). The families were grouped according to the province of their origin and the consanguinity rates were calculated accordingly. There were slight differences in the consanguinity rates in the five provinces, which ranged from 52.1% to 67.7%. In each province first cousin marriages were the most frequently encountered pattern, ranging from 17.9% to 40.9%. The inbreeding coefficient (F) was calculated for each province and ranged from 0.020 to 0.030. Within each province, there were several significant differences among the populations in the different areas. The highest rate of consanguinity was 80.6% in Samtah and the lowest rate was around 34% in Abha in the South Western province. These results place Saudi Arabia among the countries of the world with a high rate of consanguinity. The possible consequences of increased consanguinity are presented and discussed.

Danish psychologist Nicolai Sennels studies the effects of Islamist inbreeding:

"If there are two things that characterize Islamic culture, they are terrorism and inbreeding. The latest research shows that these two things might be closely connected . . . First cousin marriages have been the tradition in many Muslim families for innumerable generations. Such marriages increase the risk of negative mental and physical consequences . . . Risk of mental retardation increases with 400 percent (Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, 1978 “Effect of inbreeding on IQ and mental retardation”). Research shows that the IQ is 10-16 points lower in children born from blood related parents and that abilities related to social behavior and empathy develops slower in inbred babies (Indian National Science Academy, 1983 “Consanguinity Effects on Intelligence Quotient and Neonatal Behaviours of nsari Muslim Children” [pdf]). Such facts might make several pieces fall into place for many people . . . People with low intelligence (because of inbreeding) might also be easier to brainwash with fundamentalist Islam. "

My emphasis.

There is the positive aspect to marrying within the family: the daughter being handed off to a husband is less likely to be beaten too much, tortured, and murdered.

Global prevalence of consanguinity

Coincidence? I don't think so.

I emphasize that it is my opinion that there is a difference between Muslim and Islamist.

It is going to take generations to undo the damage done by centuries of Islamist inbreeding -- if the Islamists were willing to try -- too many at the top live in a world of personal wide-body jets; too many imam millionaires and billionaires living with their "72 virgins" here on Earth. So we can forget counting on Islamist cooperation.

And too many in the West willing to sellout.
