SAISD spokeswoman Leslie Price explained that the student in the video has been covered by a black box to comply with federal privacy laws. She also explained that the video cuts out before the bus hits the access road below.
"Note that the video shows the bus being hit by the car, but shortly after that occurs, the footage ends. This is due to the significant impact to the bus when it hit the ground -- power was cut and the digital video footage still in the buffer was lost," she said in an e-mail.
Both surveillance clips have been combined in the video above. In the first clip, the car involved in the crash can be seen hitting the school bus. The second clip shows the school bus driver reacting behind the wheel.
