I recently heard that Wendy's will be happy (for an added charge) to add as much bacon to their "Baconator" as you want. I believe the "record" is 24 pieces!
I may give that a try soon, but I'll tone it down to an additional 12 slices.

with your own burger, you can pick a better quality of meat to start with. you can also cook it in a way to give it more flavor than a fast food place can. if you start out with better quality ingredients and cook it bettrper you’ll end up with a superior burger.

Anyone who thinks McDonalds is good food just hasnt ever had a good burger.I've always liked McDonalds burgers, but they don't really taste like a "real" burger. The best fast food / drive through burgers in the midwest are at Hardees/Carl Jr, though I've never had in/out or whataburgers.

Well you must have a lot of time on your hands to be going to those upscale burger joints, or going to the store, buying all the fixings, taking them home, lighting the grill, prepping the toppings, cleaning up, etc. Bottom line is I think that anyone who derides McDonalds must have an hourly rate somewhere below minimum wage or they’d see the value of their time is a dominant part of the equation. Bullish.

My problem with the Hardee's Monster Thickburger is it has no lettuce, tomato and onion. I would go for the bacon cheese Thickburger. My other problem is they put the mayonaise on the bottom bun with the lettuce, tomato and onion under the meat. I like a burger with the sauce on the top bun with the lettuce next, followed by the tomato and onion on top of the melted cheese and meat.
The best burger I have found is in Yakima, Washington at 2415 South 1st St
Here is a Miner's burger and fries:

Yes! Whataburger... hands down the best.

I never have understood the appeal of the White Castle hamburger. It seems like a stripped down burger. A burger is not complete without lettuce, tomato and onion with a special 1000 Island sauce. Even the bun is funny. It seems like a dinner roll.

Originally they were very cheap (around 5¢, going up to 10¢ in the 1940s). They kinda kick-started the whole fast-food industry. For a company that started in Wichita KS, they certainly remain very popular in the New York City metro area; theyre affectionately known as ratburgers (versus the slider nickname in ads).
Perhaps people find the most frightening aspect of the patties to be the five-hole design (dating from 1949). The burgers are not flipped over when being cooked; the holes apparently facilitate this.

You take your chances with McDonalds or any other fast food place - if the particular restaurant is decent quality, keeps its kitchen equuipment clean and the burgers haven't been sitting under a heat lamp for too long, the Quarter Pounder, single or double, is fine. It's amazing how different the same burger can taste at different McDonalds franchises.
Personally, I go with an In-N-Out Double Double, protein style, when I need a burger. All the beef, none of the bread, and the quality is more consistent across restaurants.

Don’t forget the In-N-Out secret menu. Mustard fried double double.

Very true about differences in quality depending on who manages the place. The McD’s closest to me is just off the interstate and it is never as good as the neighborhood one a little further away in the opposite direction. The one on the interstate also charges more for the same items, and they screw up the order in some way nearly half the time.

You need to try the Hardee's Monster Thickburger. It's a heart attack waiting to happen, but it's amazing. So Cal has In-N-Out, Fat Burger, The Hat and Tommy's, nuff said.

Are you kidding? Really?
McDonald's food makes many people feel nauseous very soon after eating it. I've had this experience on many occasions. The "quality" is next to crap. I happen to be 6'2 and 200 pounds, I'm very healthy and do a lot of cycling (almost daily). IMO, McDonald's and other fast food burger chains are for people who want to eat like pigs and feel like them as well.
Enjoy.

I’m just not a snob like you. Life’s too short to be a snob. I like all types types of burgers. My only request is that a burger not be overly greasy. Otherwise I eat them if they are fried, grilled, broiled, or whatever.

In-N-Out is fairly new here in D/FW and haven’t generated enough business to stay open all night. But we can get double/double What-A-Burger all night and they’re mighty good plus onion rings.
